zen Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Oh boy, aren't they useful but at times, I feel like I am slave to them. No matter what's happeneing for some reason there is always this temptation to pick up the phone and chk for messages/emails. Say you are watching a movie at the cinema. But somehow you would find a reason to glance at your cellphone to look for new messages/emails. The addiction to cellphones is getting stronger day by day (esp. with the latest toys). How many times you see folks in the elevator go through their phones when they probably did that before they got into the elevator and when they were in their car before they walked into the building. These blackberries and iphones have us hooked! .... It is not unusual to find people checking their phones after they hear a ring and even when they know it is not from their phone. What's worse is you even have to pick up the phone when you are driving despite knowing it's dangerous to do that. How many times have you seen people start fumbling their pockets when they hear a ring. When the phone rings, you just have to pick it up! These smartphones, are they making our life easier (no doubt they are useful) or complicated (through addiction). Smart phones have been worth their weight in gold, be it when you had use GPS to locate something when you are on the foot or to get quick information about something but still I wish to go for a simple phone that just makes/receives calls and basic text (if the cellphone cannot be totally eliminated)

Its a pain to find a simple phone like that. The best phone I ever had was a small Nokia phone that fit in my palm. Made calls, saved numbers and had basic messaging. Never dropped a call. And its signature tune was awesome too! Looks like the entire company has slowly gone out of business now..:((

It's more like a phone is a link to keep me connected to what I am doing. So yeah in a way, it is just a tool. But a tool that keeps you reminding about what you are connected to and thus making it harder to break away from those connections (both work related and personal) even momentarily. And if you do manage to break away, it rings ....

I was hooked to smartphone because it was the means of keeping in touch with some special people in my life. That was plain freaking addictive like a charsi waiting for his daily dose.

My friends still tell my parents that I wouldve gotten 5% more in my 10th grade exams if not for that phone. My top score in snake II was 4284. (You could have different scores even if you completed the game).
