Trichromatic
R Ponting at his peak and if the game is played anywhere apart from India.... In India its R Dravid.... cause of Pontings poor record in India Dravid in India and England. Link to comment
Sachin=GOD
How about Amla? still isn't at the level of Dravid or Ponting. Link to comment
Ultimate_Game
still isn't at the level of Dravid or Ponting. On current form I will have him after Dravid, and definitely ahead of Ponting. But if you are talking about world XI based on the whole career then he's nowhere close to Dravid and Ponting. Link to comment

If your going by that logic samaraweera is better than lara because he averages more than him:giggle: You should have done bit of homework before throwing in samaraweera. Samaraweera averages 22 compared to YKs 43 in Aus. Samaraweera averages 27 compared to YKs 52 in Eng. Samaraweera averages 24 compared to YKs 59 in NZ. Plus Samaraweera bats at 5 behind Sanga and Jaya not at three behind two clowns. Link to comment
Utalk
Younis Khan is a pretty good player but what goes against him is lack of success against good teams like SA and Aus. UG YK has average of 47 against SA. He only played six tests against Aus. Three in 2002 at start of his career in a struggling team that was bowled out for 50 twice. In 2004 he was our best batsman in Aus. But I agree that by missing out on playing and scoring against Aus there is something missing in his CV. Link to comment
phaedrus
YK is not in the same league, utalk. not even close. i like the guy, he is a ATG for Pakistan but no, cant compare him to the likes of Ponting and Dravid Link to comment

But I agree that by missing out on playing and scoring against Aus there is something missing in his CV. Sometimes perceptions matter a lot. For example Laxman is considered a much better batsman than what his record suggests he is based on his stellar record against Australia, who were the best team in 90s and 2000s. Ultimately it's success against the better teams (like WI in 80s or Aus & SA in 90s and 2000s) is considered barometer of success, and as you mentioned YK's lack of games against Aus would hurt his legacy. Similarly Sangakkara's 192 in Aus enhanced his status as before that knock he was considered a FTB. Link to comment

His record in wins. His 4th inning record. His overall record in last 7 years. is up there with the best. Bloke was consistently in top 6/7 ranked batsmen for a long time. Reached #1 ranked test batsman. Averages 60+ since 2004. He might not be talented like Ponting and Amla but gets the job done. Link to comment

Averaged 65 in Eng 2006 facing Harmy Hoggard n co. He has the best away record for a Pakistani in recent times. Link to comment
