Sarkar Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 The Indian Army's Northern Command Friday paid tributes to soldiers killed during the 1971 India-Pakistan war that led to the birth of Bangladesh. On this day in 1971, India triumphed after a 14-day war, and around 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered in Dhaka and other parts of the then East Pakistan, which seceded to become Bangladesh. The Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir advanced in several sectors into Pakistani territory. The Chief of Staff of the Northern Command, Lt Gen B.S. Pama, highlighted the major military victories in Partapur, Kargil, Tangdhar, Poonch and Shakargarh areas in the northern theatre in 1971. The war started Dec 3, 1971 when Pakistani jets attacked Indian airports along the border. The war lasted 14 days, concluding with the birth of Bangladesh and surrender of Pakistani soldiers. rahulrulezz Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Now when I think of it,it was probably one of the biggest achievement any military can dream off. 93 thousand is a hugeeeee number and u have to compliment the bravery, strength, feriousty of Indian army... Also Pakistan keeps talking about breaking Kashmir away from India but to think of it, India in a way broke Pakistan into 2 parts n took away half of their population. I m not taking any credit away from native Bengalis but still Indian army has to be credited. People can say whatever they want aboutIndira Gandhi but IMO she was our best prime minister ever who showed the world that we r not there to take sh1t from any one. She wasn't ur typical prime minister as she proved that she wasn't all about talking. She changed the demographic if whole subcontinent and the scar she left on Pakistan will never be forgotten by Pakistani military.

Texy Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 all those soldiers who died...died in vain... the paki rapists/killers were freed Hindus bore the brunt of those massacres yet a lot of Hindus are/were never aware of it....I used to hear stories of how hindu women in colleges were raped/murdered and then thrown overboard from the balcony....mass grave sites were discovered.... This was south Asia's holocaust and yet hardly any one knows...

Their military n media in general used to spread this propaganda in 60s n 70s and used this phrase 1 Pakistani = 100 Hindu Indians. After 1971, they never used this phrase n propaganda. I was going over utube n amazed about some of patriotic songs they used to play during 1965 n 1971 wars spreading hate against Hindus n calling Hindus cowards. Ahmed Rushdie who used to sing patriotic song on national Pakistani radio sang quite racist n abusive songs. Here is the one which boils my blood over _tRltYpuUOU

surajmal Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 The biggest thing is that with this victory India was able to bring an end to the genocide in Bangladesh by jahil pakis. Its funny how you never read about that genocide in international press. The bad thing, however, was that Indira couldn't leverage the 90000 POWs into redrawing of the LOC and reacquiring of POK. Had that happened, I guarantee, you wouldn't have had the 20 year insurgency.
