Huge pressure on Tendulkar for MCG Test, says Manjrekar There'll be no shortage of hype in Melbourne surrounding Sachin's 100th ton Sachin Tendulkar's former Mumbai and India teammate, Sanjay Manjrekar reckoned that the batting maestro would have been better off playing the one-day series against the West Indies to "get rid of the monkey on his back," referring to his 100th international century. "I actually felt very strongly that he should have played in those one-dayers that India played at home and get rid of the monkey on his back," Manjrekar was quoted by saying in the Sydney Morning Herald. "He could have gone to Australia a lot more free and relaxed, but he's chosen not to do that. When the Indian fans come to Melbourne (venue of the opening Test against Australia) that whole event will again get hyped up and it just adds to the pressure, I feel, on Tendulkar. "I would have liked him to go to Australia, because it's an important tour, without that extra baggage. All of us who have watched him here in India feel that it is a little bit of a burden for him." Tendulkar has achieved three-figure innings on each of his four tours to Australia. In his first - in 1991-92 - he scored a hundred in Sydney and Perth. In 1999-2000, he thrilled the Boxing Day crowd at Melbourne with a splendid ton. A double hundred came in Sydney on the 2003-04 trip while on the last tour (2007-08) he was a centurion at Sydney and Adelaide. Manjrekar said he expects a better batting performance from Team India than what was dished out on their last tour to England. Save Rahul Dravid's three hundreds in the four-Test series, none of the batters could get centuries. Tendulkar claimed close in the final Test at the Oval before he was dismissed for 91. "Although I would say that the Australian bowling attack is nowhere close to what India faced in England, I expect a much-improved batting performance. But we are all a little cautious of not getting too carried away with our expectations for this Indian team. Sanjay is operating under the assumption that Sachin is experiencing the same level of hype and pressure that most of the media and some among the fans and experts are going through. He probably doesn’t care about his 100th 100 like others seem to do. If it really mattered to him, he’d have played the Windies series like few have suggested to score some easy runs and get it done with.

i like Test and T20 equally ... also Sachin plays the hit & :giggle: format as seriously as tests..he even sat with MI even if he is injured... still you laugh @ the format...:hysterical:

He knows how exactly to pace an innings and does it better than anyone else in the game. Except for a few innings of his I dont have many problems with ho he paces his innings. The biggest disappointments for me were at Cap Town in 2006/07, a game that we should have won but Rahul and Sachin had a twin brain freeze (notice the blame always goes to Sachin and nto Rahul who was in the form of his life then). And the second was against Pak in Bangalore 2005 when he shut shop to draw the game and got out to Afridi What I do want is for Sachin not to play to survive...hopefully his team mates will not force him to

Well he's at least played the game at the highest level and knows about the pressure, unlike many of the true armchair "experts" here. :winky:

I'll go for second set as overall runs are almost equal and second has a century. But I want consistency through out the series from him more than two or three spectacular innings. So if I have to choose between 6 scores in 90's over two big hundreds, with rest of the innings insignificant, I'll go for 6 90's.

True Friend...:hysterical::hysterical: At times I feel Manju is really jealous of Sachin. Probably he could not overcome the fact that he lorded over Sachin so much in Sachin's first series, yet eventually could get nowhere near him. Basically he is a indian Ramiz Raza.

dont think thats the case after retirement for quite a few years he made a living by opening sports shops in mumbai.(with his fathers connections) Then he got a gig as a commentator. To make it work he started coming out with absurd statements about sachin using his supposedly closeness to sachin. The peak at which being sachin apparently faked an injury. Once he established himself as a commentator he backed off as he had no need to make a name for himself. Sanjay, Kambli Sachin Nilesh Kulkarni Bahutule Agakar Powar etc have known each other a long time before they made their debuts for India or for that matter the Mumbai ranji team. They are what you call langoti yaars. Its a known fact that that nobody in the group has a high regard for Sanjay for breaking the ranks.

The difference is approx. 100 runs over those 4 innings In the 2nd set that you proposed, if the two big scores are two double 100s then they would have to come in 2 tests, which is not bad too

pathetic to comment on things that have already happened - should have played /monkey off back what is this And it is disrespectful to opposition to say that you will play just to get a hundred assuming very wrongly that playing in ODIs would have automatically brought him a hundred. what if he had struggled in the matches and not got any 100s even after playing.

Most of the pressure is created by the fans, and the media especially in India. Now Manjrekar is part of the media and he is trying to start the hype. I think Sachin will feel the pressure much less in Australia compared to India. The 100th 100 will come at some time. I dont think the great man is playing for it. He will go out there and give his best. Wish him all the best for the Boxing day test.
