Its sad to hear it from dHONI...i thought he should look at reducing the number of games he should be playing now rather than retiring at just the age of 34... its pathetic,... I agree. Most of the times Dhoni looks jaded and worn out mentally. Not to take anything away from him, I think he will go down as one of the greatest modern day captains but you could see the effect of too much cricket on him. He should just concentrate on important ODI series and his test match career from now on.

I mean he broke into the team on a permanent basis in mid 2005 in the ODIs before sealing his position in tests in 2006. That just 6-6.5 seasons of cricket. But i agree, he needs to pick and choose which odi matches he plays. Let Parthiv take over with the gloves. Let Gambhir/Sehwag captain

unlike other player he is keeper he has manged to keep himself injury free but his fingers seems to have damaged he is not keeping well he drops catches frequently when he plays non-stop cricket

IMO Dhoni should be able to make it to 2015 WC but Tendulkar will need to have a serious rethink and most probably retire from odis. SRT has already started easing off on odis so I guess he is already leaning in that direction.

i have been super critical of the guy as a test player/captain, but i have to admit that i still admire him a great deal as a person. he came from a city that has no history of producing indian cricketers. he singlehandedly put jharkhand on the map and has done more for the development of cricket in that state than any politician or wannabe do-gooder ever could. dhoni could retire tomorrow, and he would be remembered for making a huge contribution to the growth of indian cricket. he is an ODI legend, both as a bat and as a captain, so he would be a big loss. i dont blame him for contemplating early retirement, he has a massive workload that none of the armchair critics can relate to - not just from a physical standpoint, but also the mental strain that goes with it. most indian captains haven't lasted more than 4/5 years at a time, and dhoni's getting close to that mark. other players could just retire whenever they please, so you gotta respect him for thinking about this from a TEAM point of view, and he is leaving enough time to find a replacement.

Yup he should. He is the greatest odi batsman ever with nearly all the batting records. One thing that was missing from his resume - World Cup - was achieved earlier this year so there's no point in him continue to play odis. I would rather SRT retire from odis and focus on Tests and that will help him add a year or two to his Test career as well. In odis we already have decent replacements in Kohli, Raina and Rohit, and no point in him continuing as 2015 world cup is couple of years too far for him as he will be 42 that time!!!
