Ashwin steps up preparation ahead of Tests

Contaning runs in test cricket is completely different to restricting run flow in T20 or ODI cricket. In T20 or ODIs, you try to keep the runs down by keeping the batsmen guessing, by forcing them to not settle into a rhythm and pre-mediate what the bowler is going to bowl and you do this by unleashing every single of your variations. Aswhin is very good at that . In tests however, it is a completely different story. You need to the mental discipline have to plug away at the same line and length relentlessly and I am not sure Aswhin can do that. He is naturally attacking bowler and it is only a matter of time before his mind switches from containing mode to wicket taking mode. I still feel Ojha would be a better choice for the lone spinner slot, but given his performance with both bat and ball against the windies, Aswhin is a definite certainty for Melbourne.

Ram Saar i disagree. Ashwin is more accurate than Ojha.So more chances he will maintain the line and length. These wickets will help Ashwin get bounce. Aussies will find it difficult to pick Ashwin's variations.He has the traditional offie,the carrom ball,a dusra like topspinner and a regular leg break.

Dunno if you watched India - West Indies series, but Aswhin was routinely sending long-hops on leg-stump.

Aswhin may have come out of the Windies series with all the glory, but dont forget, Ojha almost the same amount of wickets as Aswhin did, at a very comparable average. Ojha is a very under-rated spinner.

The Aussie media has completely ignored Ashwin and Umesh from our bowling attack and the focus has been on Zak and Ishant. Will work to the advantage of these two. If our bating unit can consistently score 400+ in the 1st innings, Ashwin could be a handful on the Aussie tracks in 2nd innings with he extra bounce he gets. Warner, Cowan, Marsh, Hussey, 4 left handers in the Aussie top 6 would also work in Ashwin's favour.

This is the big problem. We are not scoring 400 consistently and the low scores puts pressure on bowlers and pressurizes them to bowl a containing line (which they dont do properly either) rather than try and take wickets.
