G_B_ Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Final Line Up would read like this Cowan Warner Marsh Ponting Clarke Hussey Haddin Siddle Hiffy Pattinson Lyon Not bad.. Dan christian will play imo. Dont think they will risk marsh with his back issues. They did not risk harris for this test anyways Cowan Warner Ponting Clarke Hussey christian haddin siddle starc pattinson Lyon
Bradman99 Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Not a big fan of Hilfenhaus, but he is better than Starc and will do for the time being.
G_B_ Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Not a big fan of Hilfenhaus' date=' but he is better than Starc and will do for the time being.[/quote'] is he that bad?
Old guy Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 is he that bad? most of these guys were average thats hte reason australia struggled thats why person like cummings (4 fc games) pattinson (20 odd games)are being selected ahead of these guys
Pagalpanti Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Hilfenhaus selection just shows how messed up the selection system in Australia is, he wasn't in the reckoning but 1 good t20 performance and he's back. Don't think they've learned from their Ashes mistakes.
Lord Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Hilfy is bowling well.was swingng it on flat wicket at Perth. not as bad a squad as people r making it out to be
Cricket Tragic Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I was pretty sure that Hilfy's career was over after the Ashes. Reports suggest that he has made come changes to his run up and is getting the ball to swing at good pace.
Old guy Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Hilfy is bowling well.was swingng it on flat wicket at Perth. not as bad a squad as people r making it out to be perth is strange place.. johnson always swings the ball there (into right handers) some how.. people dont associate with swing but ball always moves there from wht i have seen (ya im talking abt test matches but still)
chainsmoker1985 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I think they have done a real good job by giving Ben Hilfenhaus another run. I was very much impressed by him when I saw him last time(Aus tour of India). He is a top quality bowler with deadly outswingers. He has all the weapon in his armory, pace, swing, in-swing, cutters and very good reverse swing. I think he doesn't fit in the Australian scheme of things just like Vinay Kumar does fit in the Indian scheme of things (which is hard to understand). He is actually better than Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle....

chainsmoker1985 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 hmm to me he might be better than siddle but not harris have u seen harris bowl? : Yep many a times but still Ben Hilfenhaus is better
Old guy Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Yep many a times but still Ben Hilfenhaus is better hmm ok hopefully for australia ur correct cos harris has been in icu more than cricket field .. lol but whenever he played he impressed even in ashes he got 6 wicket haul in perth! to me he is one of the best bowlers around but with really fragile body

I want him to take lots of wickets but not against India. Yar, you know, I see the picture of Zaheer Khan in him. He is just like him in his bowling style and physique as well, when Zaheer was younger

99.94 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Hilfenhaus selection just shows how messed up the selection system in Australia is, he wasn't in the reckoning but 1 good t20 performance and he's back. Don't think they've learned from their Ashes mistakes. He's one of the top wicket takers in 4 day cricket. Cutting would have played instead of Hilfenhaus if he was fit. Probably just a stop gap until Harris returns. I doubt he'll be taking a bagful of wickets - probably just grab a few top order wickets and he'll have done his job.

No way is he better than Ryan Harris. The guy would be among the top 3 bowlers in the world consistently if he wasn't injured all the time.
Bradman99 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Certainly not better than Harris, no way.. I still think Siddle is better as well.. However, I would have him in the side ahead of Starc at this point in time. He can do the job, don't get me wrong, but I don't expect fireworks from him. He is ok for depth, but not the type of player I think will best benefit Australia going forward.
