kabira Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 I think third umpire should play vital role here. If he sees a howler, he should immediately ask batsman to wait like they do it for no ball. thats the way forward.
crics Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 "I wonder if pro and anti DRS people actually want some solution or they just want to keep bickering. If DRS is designed to eliminate howlers, what is really the need of hotspot and hawkeye. Simple TV replays would eliminate atleast 80% howlers. But then bickering is simpler than solution providing." Comment from a cricinfo reader
Hell Raiser Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Well obviously India are going to have some which go against them too. DRS just makes more sense because it ensures the result is fair. They don't always even out. I'm sure India would have liked to have the DRS in their last tour of Aus. +1 DRS should be mandatory. When all the other cricket countries agrees to it, India shouldn't oppose it. Sure it has its deficiencies but I would say it has more benefits than vice verse. And it will definitely get rid of bad decisions like the one Hussey got today.
surajmal Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 either review all decisions or don't bother with a review system. what is this a poker game?
saneindian Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Talking of uniformity in DRS, why should certain teams have the luxury of using hot spot and others not have the same technology? If there aren't enough hot spot cameras and if the eagle eye is not good enough, better to just use the replays as a part of the DRS and leave it between the field umpire and 3rd umpire without involving the players..
ganeshran Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Today there was a plumb lbw decision which was not given against Haddin. Even if DRS was used, this decision wouldnt have been overturned because apparently Hawkeye wasnt able to give a reading because of the shadow on the pitch :WTF: This is a flaw which needs to be rectified, you cant have a system that cannot be used at certain times of the day.
Pagalpanti Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 ^Which is why exactly umpires should be allowed. You don't need hawkeye to tell that was gonna be out. And if umpire has full authority to make decisions based on the evidences, it'll be controversy free and more accurate. These stupid rules like if it isn't conclusive, decision of on-field umpire stays or if its even hitting the stumps but not fully the decision goes in favour of on-field umpires.
ganeshran Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 ^ They should look at snicko if they can improve the time taken to generate a reading. Snicko+Replays+Pitch Mat is a controversy free, inexpensive DRS that would remove most howlers . No one really cares if marginal calls go either way, its the howlers which are irksome.
surajmal Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 I love the fact that Pakis and firangi fans have united against India. Now I want, more than ever, for BCCI to give rest of the cricketing world a middle finger. If they don't like the rules, they are welcome to quit. These cvnts need to be shown who the real boss is.

Just more ammo for bcci for rejecting udrs.
ganeshran Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Just more ammo for bcci for rejecting udrs. You dont think that is a serious deficiency with Hawkeye?
J P K Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Australian media calls Fletcher 'hypocrite' on DRS MELBOURNE: Seething after the Australian cricket team suffered a couple of setbacks in the first Test because of India's refusal to have the Decision Review System, the media Down Under trained its guns on the visiting team's coach, Duncan Fletcher, who has supported the DRS in the past. Mike Hussey (0) and Ed Cowan (68) fell to controversial decisions on the opening day on Monday leaving Australia on shaky grounds at 277 for six. India's refusal to use DRS meant there were no referrals for these decisions and Fletcher, who had been a vocal supporter of DRS during his coaching stint with England, drew the ire of an agitated media. "Duncan Fletcher hates hypocrites. The Indian coach must have trouble looking at himself in the mirror. For well over a decade, Fletcher has been a strong advocate for using technology to enhance umpiring decisions," said 'The Herald Sun'. "Now he is a mute stooge as the flat earthers who run Indian cricket refuse to embrace the Umpire Decision Review System (DRS) for the four-Test series, beginning in Melbourne on Monday," it added. In his book - 'Behind the Shades' - Fletcher has stated that he was annoyed when the ECB did not consult him when the DRS was trialled in county cricket during 2007. "The introduction of this referral system actually helped in my eventual resignation from the England job," Fletcher had written. "I was already feeling that the ECB was showing me no support during the World Cup in 2007 but it really miffed me that nobody spoke to me about this system. It was my idea after all, and nothing had changed since I first thought of it in Western Province in 1995." India, a staunch opposer of the system, had refused to allow DRS' usage despite Cricket Australia being in favour of it. The ICC rules say that the system can be used only if both the Boards consent to it. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/india-in-australia/top-stories/Australian-media-calls-Fletcher-hypocrite-on-DRS/articleshow/11254498.cms
bulbul Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Wth can fletcher do exactly? May be they expect him to be come with a comment :winky:
cowboysfan Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 May be they expect him to be come with a comment :winky: Bcci doesnt care about the opinion of 1 billion indian fans, they can care a rats ass about fletcher and his opinions.
Vijay.Sharma Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Ind-Aus lucky break watch thread Let's keep a count of lucky breaks for the series in this thread. Let's see whether DRS would have done anything better. For India - I read Brydon Coverdale's article on cricinfo claiming that Michael Pussey and Ed Cowan were wrongly given out. I saw the replays myself and while Pussey may have been 50-50 Ed Cowan definitely nicked it. Coverdale argued that no nick came up on Hot Spot so Cowan was not out. I'd say Hot Spot failed there. Anyway that is one lucky break for India in the kitty For Aus - I think it was Haddin in the final session of play who was plumb in front on a Zak delivery. Erasmus didnt give it out probably he felt it pitched outside leg. But replays showed that it pitched in line and was plumb in front. One lucky break for Aus. So Ind-Aus 1:1 Hot Spot: No Hot Spot 0:1
Bradman99 Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 The fact that you think Hussey's dismissal was 50/50 to me shows that you are incredibly bias.
ganeshran Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 There is already a thread for umpiring during the Oz tour.
