Well if you look at Gambhir's average in tests over the past 2 years (source cricinfo): 2011 @ 31; and 2010 @32. Not dreadful, but surely not up to international standard for an opener. I would have thought there are other options in India to look to. 2 most recent years shows average results at best. How is that a "bullshit" statement? I have not called anyone a "flat track bully"... Where I understand the reference to my ignorance, I am ignorant to the need for the abusive comments, when again I make nothing but a personal opinion without being offensive to anyone here??? My opinion is Gambhir still has to prove himself against some larger teams away from India. Again my opinion. You may not agree and that is fine but there is no need to resort to abuse to disagree.

Go find out and tell me. yep can help you out, He managed a good average of 60 in that series. Put that in context now: The ave of 60 comes from 4 innings made up of 242 runs, where: first test - 5 and 80; second test - DNB third test - 93 and 64. From that it could be put that it is a good average made up of one fail, one start and two good knocks. Now give thiss is in the 2010 year, and lets look at more than 3 hits to say the guy is a great batsman. In 2010, Gambhir had 18 total innings where he made a total of 524 runs at an average of 32.7. So from that take the SA series out and he had 14 hits for 282 runs or and average of 20.1 - not great. One good series a great he does not make.

I hope he does well in Australia since he is the only one who has a remote chance of dethroning Dhoni from his otherwise fixed captaincy position .

I think the various injuries over the last 18 months have really disrupted his rhythm. When you're not playing regularly and spending time in the middle then bad habits can resurface (Gambhir had really worked hard on restricting that dab outside off-stump which used to cause him bother earlier in his career and has re appeared). Hopefully he can string some regular cricket together. I do believe that if he can just get that one hundred then the runs will start flowing again. The importance of his performances in SA and the World Cup final can't be over emphasized.

Send him a message to perfect his technique instead of his maa-behen poems. Remove Dravid from the slips and do not let Laxman field anywhere else except the slips. And also remind Sehwag to lose some of that fat slob. The guy was an embarassment in the field. Jogging to the boundary and I forgot how many times the aussie batsman ran 4. Less said about Dhoni the better.
Cricket Tragic Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Yuvraj was ok for a period and raina probably not quite there but suggest the newer kids be given a bit of a go in the short term. They are not vvs or SRT (yet) but maybe they will get there. Invest the time. Maybe India should look at sending some of the younger guys to England, SA, Aus or WI for a season or two to play some domestic cricket and learne the non-indian wickets, conditions etc. Other countries do it. Collingwood was playing grade cricket at the same club as Warne when England first picked him. I know Eng, Pak, Zim and WI all have young players in the sydney club comps now. Warner's club has 2 right now. What do you think? Our chaps are busy playing in the circus league. They don't have the time to play county cricket.

Here's what I think the team should look like: Sehwag Rahane Dravid Sachin Laxman R Sharma Dhoni Ashwin Z Khan I Sharma Yadav I like it. My only tweak would be that Kohli stays, but VVS goes. Kohli has an up side in that he might learn a thing or two, and develop as a bat. VVS is close to the end of his career. No upside to keeping him on when he is not able to consistently perform any more.

I personally don't see any reason to make any change, let alone two changes. What better opportunity to judge who's a spent force and who's a false dawn? Otherwise the dropped player/s will have a solid reason to cry out "injustice".

He continues to "have faith in our batting". I expect Gambhir and Kohli to play in the next test.
