punjabi_khota Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Different types of players. YK has been a consistent performer who has been expected to carry most of the burden of Pakistan over the decade along with Inzi/Youhana, while VVS has been the ultimate crisis man some whose failures have been eclipsed by the presence of VS,SRT,RD in the team. Don't think there is as much gap between the two as some people here are suggesting.

Sid Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I rate Younis Khan very highly.A very good batsman who is capable of playing and scoring under testing conditions and against good attacks. But I will be biased here :--D and vote for Laxman but Younis Khan is no lesser than Laxman in greatness.
BeautifulGame Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I think people are underrating Younis Kahn massively here IMO. I wont take YK over Laxman but Younis Khan himself is one of the most consistent batsment of this decade IMO. Younis Khan is bit more consistent than Laxman but he doesnt have the ability to play the Laxman type knocks IMo.

ganeshran Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 YK is a class below VVS, and I dont say it because of bias. VVS stats are not that great because of his average performance in his initial years which he turned around after the 2001 series. If YK plays some defining knocks in the next few years, he can be counted among the best. Till then he is a very good player, just that.
jhakati Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 just cos VVS is in poor form you have this stupid thread. seriously, younis is nowhere near laxman's class, period. younis is in the class of someone like gambhir
Utalk Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 just cos VVS is in poor form you have this stupid thread. seriously, younis is nowhere near laxman's class, period. younis is in the class of someone like gambhir You guys are seriously underrating YK here. VVS has fantastic record against Aus and have played some blinders under pressure. But YK has performed better against top attacks like Eng and SA. YK averages 52 in Eng VVS 34. Against Eng YK averages 45 and VVS 30. In SA VVS averages 40 and YK 34 but against them YK averages 47 VVS 37. In NZ VVS averages 40 and YK 65. Against Pak VVS averages 43 and against India YK averages 88. Like I said before that YK loses out to VVS against Aus but YK never played against them at his peak. He never played them at home. His only series in Aus he was our best batsman by a mile. Against Warne, Mcgrath and Dizzy he averaged 43. This was the same series where so called legend Inzi average .5 and pulled out citing a non existent injury. Since 04 he has averaged 45 in SA and 65 in Eng and had he played in Aus against Jhonson and co I am sure YK would have performed. Another thing that sets YK apart is his conversion rate. In 120 innings he has 19 test hundreds and nine 149+ scores. VVS has 17 hundreds and 6 149+ scores in 220 innings.

master22 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Laxman easily and please dont bring stats to show that younis is superior, laxman is a special player.
pensionplan Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Younis Khan hands downDoes your stupid analysis and graphs show Younis Khan as a virtuso batsman? If not I suggest you tweak things a little bit or fudge stats which you are good at anyway to accomodate YK in that list.

Your comparison based on averages is fundamentally flawed.YK played most of his career as a no.3 or no.4 whereas Laxman played most of his career as 5-6 where its much harder to score as he had to bat with tail half the time.Same reason why YK has scored more centuries than Laxman. Frankly Laxman's greatness (Atleast to Indian cricket) is never about stats. Its about the quality of knocks he played. If we are listing the great knocks played by both VVS and YK how many knocks played by YK do u honestly feel will be in the top 5.

You make excellent points which are hard to dispute as to why VVS is clearly better than YK.

If not I suggest you tweak things a little bit or fudge stats which you are good at anyway to accomodate YK in that list.Let me make this clear once and for all to you - I am not interested in having any conversation with you not matter what the topic since you seem to have a personal grudge against me and/or my opinions. Now, if you want you can become like PK and follow me but honestly dude you don't have an iota of PK's humor to pull it off so the max you can do is keep ranting like this at me without any response from me until someone else asks you to stfu already
Singham Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Stupid thread. Way to bump when vvs is struggling and on the verge of retirement.
zen Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 To know guys like Amarnath and VVS, you have to look beyond pure numbers ....
