BeautifulGame Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Because no other cricketing power's record is so lopsided when it comes to at home vs overseas performance. Aussies, for example, have been very strong in India. In fact Indian fans of 50s and 60s absolutely loved them since they would always send their first XI, unlike say England. Thus you have Australia with great record in India. Yes their performance in 90s and 2000s has not been a dominant one but surely they have been competent enough? How does Indian performance in Australia compare? We never won any series. And our best effort is a drawn series (personally I still maintain our lost chance was the drawn series in 86 where we should have won 2-0). Oustide of India we have had very little success. And specially in cricketing superpowers like Australia, West Indies, South Africa, England and Pakistan. So obviously were get criticized for that...rather fairly actually. xxx So u would look into how a team did 20-30 years back rather than how they performed overseas in last 10- 15 (this current generation ) do decide whether a team is Home town bullies or not?
Ultimate_Game Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 No we wouldn't trade the world cup for anything in the world but at the same time the win doesn't entitle our team to play as if they don't care about anything anymore. Test series against teams such as SA, Aus and SA are pretty important and we've sucked big time since the world cup. If the current lot feel they have achieved everything with the WC win they should step aside and let players who are hungry and want to win get into the team.
ganeshran Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 A WC win doesnt give a license to the team to perform poorly overseas. The world cup is valued over any other team prize in cricket, but performing consistently in bilateral series is also important. Seems like this has become a habit with India. After the 1983 win, we won a grand total of 1 match (out of 16 played) for the next two years :((

As the saying goes "If you're not preparing to succeed, you're preparing to fail". That's exactly we did and sat back on our laurels and are getting the reality check. One would have thought they would have got the rude awakening in the Eng series but I guess not. And BCCI just released the elongated 53 day schedule for IPL 5 (or is it 6?) :hysterical: Our test days as a decent side are numbered coz I don't see us doing much with IPL taking over.

Brainfade Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 First up 1986 win in England is remembered by quite a few, including yours truly. Not my mistake if your priority is WC cricket Seriously though, what kind of insular logic is this? Give me WC win and eff everything else? That seems more like a defensive mechanism to make us feel good. And if anything seems very Indiansque in nature. I mean when Windies won in 1975 they went on to dominate WC for 15 or so years. When Australia won in 1987 it kickstarted their layin down the pipeline for next 20 years domination. Even when Pakistan won in 1992 they were amongst the world top 2-3 teams for better part of decade. And hows India, 2011 WC champion responds? Whitewashed in England, seemingly whitewashed in Australia, 1-0 against lowly West Indies. Simply put we must be in the running of the worst WC champions ever. Now if that rocks your boat go for it :hatsoff: It is an acceptance of reality. We are already down that path - our players more than anyone else. It is time we officially stated it and strove for absolute dominance in LOIs. This dominance should not be (w)only in the WC. It must be in every single LOI match that we play - home or abroad. Our players simply don't have the desire, our board the commitment, and our fans the interest in the 5-day format. It is time to salute the Dravids and Laxmans of the world for entertaining us for 2 decades and usher in the Rainas, Kohlis and R. Sharmas, while continuing to celebrate the success of SRT, VS, GG and MSD in the LOI format. After all, cricket is just entertainment. Fans will adapt to it; heck, they are demanding it by staying away from the 5-dayers. Embrace it, ye of progressive proclivities.

The only issue with this its the test greats like Sachin Sehwag Drvaid and Laxman who are failing us and the sole reason for these debacles. SO blaming the youngsters or IPL for these debacle is just stupidity.
goose Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 Seriously though if we had won the 2003 world cup' date=' then I would not trade that for any test series win. But this world cup, where we were guaranteed a spot in the QF, and we had to win only 3 matches, wasn't as impressive as our run in the 2003 wc. Now that was something!!![/quote'] Yes!

Also we have won as many series there as they have here. Also we have won three series in the Indies.

Between Jan 1 1990 and Jan 1 2000, Pakistan's W/L ratio was 1.52 Between Jan 1 2000 and Jan 1 2010, India's W/L ratio was 1.48 And India played 25 MORE Test matches.

Yoda-esque Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Sorry I voted "Yes" by mistake. I would still prefer the WC win.
Lurker Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 So u would look into how a team did 20-30 years back rather than how they performed overseas in last 10- 15 (this current generation ) do decide whether a team is Home town bullies or not? I look at a team's performance contextually and not oppertunistically to suit my interest. Yes recent form is always the measure of how good a team is performing but if a team is criticized because it has historically been not upto the mark that is a very fair critcism too.
Lurker Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 It is an acceptance of reality. We are already down that path - our players more than anyone else. No team in the history of this great game has strove for dominance in one form and bigged itself as world beaters. West Indies were great because they could dominate everyone in every format. Same with Aussies. Whats next? India champions in LOI, Aussies in Tests and England in T20? What kind of world number 1 conundrum is that? By the way I also refuse to accept we are no 1 in LOI. We have done better on home tracks and have a decent performance overseas...nothing really oustanding to call us world beaters.
Lurker Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Pakistan is not a superpower. The 90s team is slight less tahn the 2000s Indian team. Also we have won as many series there as they have here. Also we have won three series in the Indies. Yes it is. Pakistan is one of the finest team historically and their win-loss ratio are far better than country like India. And their overseas record is far better than India for sure. It is not mean to big Pakistan or bring down India but lets learn to call a spade a spade.

We have done better on home tracks and have a decent performance overseas...nothing really oustanding to call us world beaters. Sigh.We have won our last ODI series in Australia Pakistan New zealand Srilanka West Indies and Bangladesh.Thats 6 of the 8 test playing nations we have won ODI series in apart from thrashing every team at home. The only 2 series we have lost is in SA (where we fought closely without top players ) and in England where we played a near 2nd choice XI. If this isnt dominance what exactly is?
Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Yes it is. Pakistan is one of the finest team historically and their win-loss ratio are far better than country like India. BeautifulGame Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 So we are awful away from home since we have never won any series away from home. Can anyone tell me exacly how many series Pakistan has won or drawn in SA or Aus? Have they won test series in every country unlike us to say they are far superior than us away from home?
