saneindian Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 he is the 4th highest scorer in the World in Tests played abroad in the last 2 years. p.s. the 1st and 2nd names in that list are Goddy and Draivd. Cook is 3rd. Did you look at his average? It's 39, MSD's avg is 32, he is no 6 on the same list and you have been among those calling MSD a poor test batsman, not deserving of a test spot and what not :P
Lord Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 He getting out even worse manner than Dravid like in both innings at SCG and he is worst at fitness even when he is 2 years younger than Dravid. I am for both RD and VVS to go after this series and a place for Pujara and Rohit for them the next time we play test this year. u r proposing this like-up GG Sehwag Pujara Sachin Rohit Kohli MSD wouldnt that be much of inexperience?sure we'll playing at home, but still, its not like it'll be that easy, specially v England

We will have to go with this line up anyway sooner or later, so why not start it from this season. It is already late. We cannot leave it too late. SRT is still playing well and can play for 1-2 years and if we wait for 1-2 year more, we will have to blood some one for SRT too. http://www.cricschedule.com/series/104-new-zealand-in-india-2012-schedule-fixtures.html

VVS after the present series, RD after the England series.

Koi series easy nahin hai. Let the seniors play on. Aur jab easy series is there like the one vs NZ in 2010 or vs WI in 2011 at home, none of the seniors wants to be rested. Young players ko mauka kahan denge?

BeautifulGame Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 u r proposing this like-up GG Sehwag Pujara Sachin Rohit Kohli MSD wouldnt that be much of inexperience?sure we'll playing at home, but still, its not like it'll be that easy, specially v England We can go with Gambhir Rahane Pujara Sachin Sehwag Rohit Dhoni for the England series.Soon after than Sachin should retire too.So that when we go to our next away tour our youngsters will be lot more experienced.Yes we may lose a series at home in the process but will be better of in the long term. Look at England when they were experimenting they lost to us home and SA but but in the long term that has paid them immensely. What do u want ? To cling on to our seniors and blood our youngsters too late which will mean we wont have any chance when we tour SA or Aus or Eng next time and always be home town bullies or giving youngsters a chances and bulid a strong team to these away tours with a chance of winning?

Yes but we will have to see how Dravid plays. I do not think any one of these youngsters can replicate our ATG, but it is a process which will have to be done and hope for the best because we have started losing badly now with ATGs as well. The best thing we can do is to refine our fast bowlers and enable them to take wickets and take pressure off the batsmen. We will have to find balance between them in future.

If we dont think too far ahead and plan for our next away tours to SA Eng or Aus then we never win series in these countries.
Lord Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 If dont think too far ahead and plan to next away tours to SA Eng or Aus then we never win series in these countries. winning series in these countries depends more on fast bowlers than batsmen.so what?retire Zak n play Unadkat?
rkt.india Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 winning series in these countries depends more on fast bowlers than batsmen.so what?retire Zak n play Unadkat? We have already done that by blooding Yadav and Aaron and just need to refine them and find 1-2 more good pacer.
Lord Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 We have already done that by blooding Yadav and Aaron and just need to refine them and find 1-2 more good pacer. n they r winning matches for us arent they?
Needforspeed Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 winning series in these countries depends more on fast bowlers than batsmen.so what?retire Zak n play Unadkat? Zak even if he doesn't retire soon anyway is not going to be fit most of the time. And winning series abroad is not just about bowling its about both. Both in England and in Australia we lost so badly because of our batting failures. If our batting had clicked, we would have managed to at least draw some matches.
BeautifulGame Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 winning series in these countries depends more on fast bowlers than batsmen.so what?retire Zak n play Unadkat? Zaheer is only 33 he has every chance of playing in our next away tour. Can we say the same thing about Sachin Laxman and Dravid. Even then Zaheer too should be rotated often so that we build a strong fats bowling reserves.
rkt.india Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 n they r winning matches for us arent they? Yes they have helped us win both in ODIs and tests and they have done well enough to be persisted with. Remember, they both are rookies. We never had any fast bowling culture that is why we should not expect our pacers to start taking 5-fers from the game one. Yadav did well at MCG as well and yes, they both may not be consistent to start with, but that is the thing our coaches should look to work on them to attain. They can only improve from here and have a long career ahead for both of them. We need to create a fast bowling culture to encourage fast bowlers and also create a system so that our fast bowlers improve overtime rather than regressing because we can no longer depend on batting. A good to decent batting line up with effective bowling can still keep the team competitive.
BeautifulGame Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Zak even if he doesn't retire soon anyway is not going to be fit most of the time. And winning series abroad is not just about bowling its about both. Both in England and in Australia we lost so badly because of our batting failures. asterix Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 It's easy to put all the blame on batting failure..It effectively covers all other failures..The batsmen have been bailing out the team for many years now. Teams do win after scoring less.. Australia has lost matches recently after bowling out teams at lowers scores.. Keeping all eggs on batsmen's basket not gonna help and will not help any more. The batsmen will struggle from here on. Now do you want to win in this situation or keep on blaming the batsmen? Have you got the mettle to win? Hain '***** mein dum'? Even if batsmen had made good totals, it's not their job to set the attacking field and bowl tightly to get a win. The 'anaconda' like one-dimensional strategy works only in ODIs and on SC wickets..
saneindian Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Any talk of retiring the seniors has to be a part of the discussion on overhauling the team including getting in a new captain and hopefully a new coaching staff as well. Retiring VVS and RD alone will not solve the problem. Batting failure is a part of the problem as is the insipid leadership.

Those matches were bowling wickets.Last year England won every test only after scoring above 400.Same with South Africa the year before when they won in Australia. In England when we won in 2007 we put up 400+ totals in both tests we performed.Same with SA when they won in England. So if u cant even put up 300 despite getting better conditions that oppositions all the blame should be on the batsmen. Even if batsmen had made good totals, it's not their job to set the attacking field and bowl tightly to get a win. The 'anaconda' like one-dimensional strategy works only in ODIs and on SC wickets.. U can only put attacking fields on good batting wickets if batsmen have good totals in the first place.
