Prakat Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Good teamwork and Good catch . Mohd Kaif's catch in the 2004 ODI series in Paskistan is the most spectacular catch i have ever seen. Kaif's catch is everything the OP's catch is not. There is no teamwork, in fact, there is negligence and an abject disregard for the other teammate running in - notice how his foot grazes his cap causing it to fall off - a split second off and he could have kneed his face. The two fielders are actually competing against each other. Notice how after the catch Kaif doesn't turn to look at him to see if he's alright. And considering he was the closest teammate to him, shouldn't Kaif have turned to celebrate the wicket with him?

Because he probably knew Badani was alright since he didnt even collide with him and took the catch infront of him. That was celebration in the spur of the moment.U cant plan who are going to celebrate with.

It shouldn't have been that hard in the first place, one of the should have called out and the other backed off. This competing for catches only contribute to the sports bloopers reel and dropped catches nine times out of ten so I don't see any merit in putting this up as an example of good fielding. That was celebration in the spur of the moment.U cant plan who are going to celebrate with. If it is spontaneous wouldn't you run to the teammate nearest to you? Especially someone who was running for the same catch.

You mentioned "negligence and an abject disregard for the other". I saw it as pure commitment towards catching the ball.The other guy never intended to catch the ball. In most cases like this i have seen indian fielders backing out at the last moment . But Kaif was 100% committed to catching the ball even though his peripheral vision may have suggested a possible collision. In the end due to his amazing athleticism he managed to avoid a collision and pulled off a great catch. No.

Usually most indian fielders hesitate at the last moment thinking its others cathc and both jsut stood watching other and the ball falls in no man's land.Unlike the instance when kaif and Badani went for it. This is the first time i hear someone saying player should celebrate with another particular player compulsorily.Wierd tbh

If the ball is behind the bowler, the batsman calls, if the ball goes behind the wicket the non-striker calls. With reg. to hesitation, this is why calling helps, so that both fielders know who is going for it and who is to back off. and it's not a question of compulsion. It's of instinct and team spirit. And if it's the first time you have heard of this then there's a lot for you to learn in the world.

Don't remember the match but three players behind the stumps were involved including the wicket keeper. IIRC, the sequence was something like this: 1. Catch goes to first slip...fielder drops it. 2. Wicketkeeper dives and keeps the ball off the ground. 3.The ball goes on to the shoe of the fielder in the second slip who flips it up with his shoe and then catches it. Wish there was a video of it.
