Tendulkar_Bhai Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Completely agree. His tactics during the test, bringing in new talent EARLY, not afraid to try out new things, motivation on the field and passion, none of the qualities Dhoni has. He is not a bad captain but has been lucky he was captain when India was hosting the WC and the team has pulled him through. He seems to be everyones friend (SRT saying Dhoni was the best captain he'd played under), maybe as Ganguly took no rubbish from anyone...which is what you need, not a friend but a leader to stop our players getting complacent. Ganguly also was robbed of a series win in Aus by Benson and Bucknor. http://scganguly.com/2012/01/ganguly-captain-dhoni-steve-waugh/
goose Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Think Tendulkar and Kirsten are better placed to make that call.
Tendulkar_Bhai Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Think Tendulkar and Kirsten are better placed to make that call. Tendulkar probably views Dhoni as "less work" than Ganguly, doesnt mean he is a better for the team
goose Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Every captain has their sell by date no matter how gifted. Waugh came up against Ganguly in 2001 and 2003, both hugely successful series for Ganguly/India. On a side-note most of Dhoni's critics concede he does a great job in the limited formats. Might that be just be a case of being better able to express himself when a given a side full of juniors? That'd be consistent with the wins over Eng and WI recently at home.
Andrew Peter Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Tendulkar must have changed his mind after the last two thrashings against England and Australia , might just rank Azhar ahead of Dhoni right now with Ganguly being the Ace.
jonas10 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Ganguly had a much much better test team under his captaincy than Dhoni ever did. Not much for Dhoni to do as all the players on the current team are well past their prime or noobs.

Not much for Dhoni to do as all the players on the current team are well past their prime or noobs. Dhoni has twice the bowling attack as ganguly did and laxman was at his peak under dhoni for last 3 years and sachin is always at his peak and even gambhir had a great few years so what are you saying,If ganguly has zak of today, ishant, yadav, sreesanth,p.k,aaron he would have won us more matches than he did with zak who had problems, nehra, agarkar, bangar,
bulbul Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Think Tendulkar and Kirsten are better placed to make that call. how can Kirsten is better placed to make call..he may be biased as he worked mainly with Dhoni... And why only Tendulkar why Not Kumble,Dravid or Laxman...do u really think they cant judge better...atleast 2 of them are better captains than Sachin :winky:

vamos_rafa Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 The other day, there was a show on Aaj tak discussing MSD's problems as a skipper. And of al lthe people, azza had some real advices for MSD. He was saying that he used to talk to all the boys in the team, which Dhoni does not do He was an attacking kaptann unlike Dhoni. Classic case of Make hay when the sun shines.

Ganguly had inform Kumble and Harbjahan as well and Kumble has been very successful in Australia especially in 2003-2004.

Dhoni has - Noob in Ashwin and washed up Bhajji Openers Ganguly - Multan Sehwag Dhoni - Double Duck Sehwag Middle order Ganguly - Dravid and Laxman in their peak Dhoni - Dravid and Laxman at the end of their career SRT Factor Ganguly - Double Hundred in Australia sachin Dhoni - cant get hundred in almost a year sachin Etc etc...
rkt.india Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 But yes Dhoni off late has become tactically very laid back and he is a wait and watch captain. Now sometimes it does look like if there is no captain on the field.

Yes ganguly had kumble and bhajji ,But bhajji did well on dustbowls in india and kumble was not ganguly first choice spinner outside india,Its only at the end of his captaincy kumble got wickets abroad. Also we still do nto have a problem winning in india. shewag also scored a triple century agianst sa in chennai under dhoni and close to another against srilanka ,Shewag had a good 2008,09,10 under dhoni About middle order you can look at stats sachin, vvs laxman have averagedd more in the last few years than under ganguly and won us matches. Dhoni has been captain for 3 years now not a year.

jhakati Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 But they have not been scoring abroad much lately and even in Ganguly's term' date=' we did not won any abroad except Zimbabwe and 2003.[/quote'] you dummy under ganguly- we won the 1st test in eng after 20 years won the 1st test in WI after 24 years won a test in aus after decades and drew 1-1 vs the great aus side of steve waugh won a test and a test series in pakistan first time ever! reached WC finals playing in SA and more.. ganguly made india tigers both home n away and now dhobi is taking us back to the 90s again.
saneindian Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Dada had his worst year as a captain after the highs of the 1-1 draw in Australia and historical series win in Pakistan in Mar-Apr 2004. Loss in the Asia Cup, Lost to Aus and Pak in a tri series, lost a ODI series to Eng, First round exit in CT in Eng, home series loss to Aus, 1-1 draw vs Pak and a ODI series loss to Pak. It was said at that time that the Ganguly-Wright combo had failed to take India to the next level after the highs of Australia 2003-04 and Pakistan 2004. Team India MSD is having a similar slide post our WC win. There seems to be a lack of motivation in the team and skipper, attributes quite similar to what we saw fin the last 12 months under Dada. Maybe 3-4 years is the max shelf life of an Indian skipper.

Needforspeed Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I think Dhoni should resign from Captaincy if he has any shame, but I think these days a captain is commercially more saleable than an oridinary player. In the 70s, under Ajit Wadekar, India beat W.Indies in West Indies (1971), Beat England in England (1971) and beat England in India (1972-73). Then India toured England in 1974, the English prepared greentops and we were whitewashed 3-0 including an all out for 42 at Lords. After coming back to India, Wadekar resigned from Captaincy and at the age of 33, retired from International cricket. The results in England this year was similar to 1974 and the Australian tour makes it worse. The captain should take moral responsibilty and resign.
