Dropping Ashwin would make the tail really long.
The best batsman in this series has been dropped....

Mithun would've been a better pick as he can bat ......Koomar is probably one of the worst players from India to get a test cap

I'm not sure why single out Vinay Kumar. He definitely isn't a pick into the Test line up but the others in the bowling didn't do good anyway.
critcism of other bowlers can be for specific poor performances.but their international credentials are not in question. this guy is third rate as far as international talent is cocnerned,.he has no business being there. it shows a deficiency in talent identification and it has enormous implications. a system that cannot filter out mediocre players ruthlessly is mediocre itself. the aussie system would not select him for a club side. the wastage of players like uthappa, rayudu while duds like vinay are getting chances shows a highly dysfunctional system. its good in a way that the big batsmen are not able to mask the startegic incompetence of our selectors and the partial incompetence of the team amangement anymore.

If this guy plays another test for India then surely he must have a Godfather in the BCCI. No-one has ever rated him as a genuine international prospect and apart from a decent home series against England in the ODI's he has performed badly. I actually feel sorry for him because he gives it his all, i blame those who pick him.

The way things are going it looks as if players like Rayudu and Abu Nechim will not get selected due to playing in the ICL.

Everyone makes their share of mistakes. Remember : Michael Beer, Xavier Doherty, Beauu Casson, Jason Krejza. Sometime back ICF greats called for Varun Aaron to be in the team. I didn't think he set the stage on fire. There were in principle two questions : [A] Was it necessary to play four quicks? My opinion : Looks a strategical error and definitely you can blame the team management (not just the captain mind you). With some bounce in the WACA pitch, a spinner may be a good option. I would've gone for Pragyan Ojha to get some variety. Vinay Kumar vs. Abhimanyu Mithun My opinion : Doesn't make much of a difference. Mithun/Vinay Kumar are in the same bracket. I would question both their credentials on this tour. Unfortunately, we will have to live with them since our fast bowling options aren't plenty. An interesting question would be : Does Ishant Sharma deserve his place?

What has uthappa and Rayadu done to justify selection. There are whole lot of youngsters ahead of Uthappa and Rayadu. The only format Uthappa deserves selection is T20 cricket and Rayadu doesnt even deserve that.

ishant is the most dim witted retarded bowler in international cricket today. he and vinay kumar are n exception. ishant comes in fast bowls short and wide and gets smacked outta the park while vinay also comes steaming in darts a few snailers and get clubbed all over the park. we need bowlers who can maintain line and length while bowling in 135-140 and with ability to at least swing the ball one way. only sreesanth and irfan seem capable of it.. please guyz we need you badly .. do hit form and get sane... we need some scouts to go all out and get the best 50 pacers in the country and drill them for one year to build up our reserves. somebody please change the point system in Ranji. for every result oriented pitch the state association should get 5 lakhs.

they know what they are doing. when stocks were barren, they picked the best they had. and beer, krejtza are not as hopeless as this guy.

aaron is a genune talent and can be nurtured. why do you even compare him to a dud? our fast bowling credentials are lower than many countires and its best to lwoer ur expectations to start with,

mithun has more to work with. but he shud not have been ahead of irfan.

If this is your logic for picking Mithun, it speaks volumes about the batsmen. Pick a bowler to bat, not bowl ... bat!

I'm not sure why you are comparing. It was a metaphor to explain mistakes. Not to do a direct comparison.

I am not comparing Aaron to Vinay's talent mate. It's good to look at things in retrospect. Mind the fact that you and I have no access to net sessions, training practices and loads of other information. People making decisions have slightly more prior data than we do.
our fast bowling credentials are lower than many countires and its best to lwoer ur expectations to start with,
You can't hone fast bowling talent on concrete tracks. It's the same reason we get good batsmen.

There you go. Irfan Pathan hasn't done much of note recently in the longer format. I do believe he may add more variety to the bowling and depth to batting. However, we should pick him ONLY if he's bowling well. Batting is a bonus.
he is the best we have.
No wickets is the best bowler you have? Sanjay Manjrekar wrote an excellent article on why he doesn't pick wickets. The problem is he can't remedy that in India. He needs to spend a good 6-8 months in England or Australia.

what is "justify selection" ? some garbage data in ranjis? this is precisely the problem i am talking about.they belong to the dustbin. what was viv richards doing with a 27 FC average and one county century when he made hsi debut vs india? what did warne to "justify selection" in 1991? what did cummins do to "justify selection" in SA? how would you know federer would stop underperformign at grand slams during june 2003 and would go to win 14+ titles? if you keep waiting for players to "justify selection",keep waiting for the next millenium. people with an eye for talent can pick sampras or tendulkar for for great sucess long before. you need an eye for quality and talent. this is not a math or stat exam. (not that real mathematicians and statisticians will be happy with the math done here or elsehwere :))
