deathmonger Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Will shorten the tail. Can't possibly do a worse job than Ishant or Vinay with the ball. In all probability if he does well in the upcoming few ODI series we have, he'll prolly be selected for NZ tour.
India-KXIP fan Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Praveen, Umesh, Zak, Ashwin is a good attack. If Praveen fails then Irfan is a good replacement. Ishant needs a season of county cricket and Ranji to learn to take wickets. He has bounce and pace and will be an able replacement when Zak retires in a year or two. Also if Ashwin continues to fail like he did in sydney Ojha should be the spinner. He had a great season in county cricket. Usually its harder for spinners in England but he did great.
tothepoint Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Agree with OP. Irfan is lucky/big match player.
Ponka Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 The problem is not bowling these days. Its batting. Last 7 test losses are due to poor performance of batsmen. Bowlers have done better than expected.
deathmonger Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 The problem is not bowling these days. Its batting. Last 7 test losses are due to poor performance of batsmen. Bowlers have done better than expected. That's what I'm saying. Pathan will contribute with the bat (he avgs 30+) and him along with Ashwin will add 50-60 runs after fall of 7th wkt. As of now we are falling for 5-6 runs after fall of 7th wkt. Also his bowling can't be worse than Vinay's (hopeless) or Ishant's (needs to go back domestic or county).
deathmonger Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 Pathan in tests  Who else for third seamer. Also he'll shorten the tail. Look at the crap batting of the tail. Once Dhoni comes in we are all out for 10-15 runs.
indiefan Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Pathan is as slow as Vinay and it will be a pain to watch him bowl. Why isn't Sachin bowling? At least there were enough opportunities in this series to try his magic arm.

India-KXIP fan Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 But we need bowlers to be good bowlers, batting is a bonus not a requirement. We need a genuine swing bowler, PK after his performance in the England tests deserves a chance ahead of Irfan. If he fails then I think Irfan is the best replacement.
adi B Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 no pathan in tests, maybe in odi bcoz the next wc is in aus, so can be the an extra pacer, but in tests, we`ve got genuine pacers.... zak, umesh,pk,aaron can be regulars, ishant, sree backups
Lord Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I was calling for it before the series.however in India hes not an option
deathmonger Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 well let's see how he does in the series coming up.
Karan114 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 That's what I'm saying. Pathan will contribute with the bat (he avgs 30+) and him along with Ashwin will add 50-60 runs after fall of 7th wkt. I agree that he can't do much worse than Ishant and Vinay with the ball and (much) better with the bat. I'd have Zak, Praveen and Yadav as my first choice attack but Pathan ahead of Ishant, definitely. Ishant has exhausted his chances now.
rkt.india Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Who else for third seamer. Also he'll shorten the tail. Look at the crap batting of the tail. Once Dhoni comes in we are all out for 10-15 runs. We have Ashiwn at who can bat well. We already have 3-4 bowlers Zak, Yadav, PK, Aaron, and then Ishant has not bowled badly, is just not taking enough wickets. Dinda has done well as well in domestic cricket. More than Irfan, I would like Dhawal Kulkarni.
bulbul Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 That's what I'm saying. Pathan will contribute with the bat (he avgs 30+) and him along with Ashwin will add 50-60 runs after fall of 7th wkt. India-KXIP fan Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Also Vinay Kumar should never return. Just how he averages less than 25 in first class cricket is beyond me. Shows how pointless first class statistics can be. He steams in like he is Shoiab Akthar or something. Even Siddle laughed while facing him.
Cricket Tragic Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Pathan has proved himself in tests - to be a clown. He should not be anywhere near the test team. This isn't about Koomar or some other joker. None of them should be there. Saying that Pathan is better than them doesn't mean much. We need to pick quality test bowlers and Pathan will never be one.
Needforspeed Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Pathan at best can play in ODIs. Now a days he bats like Ishant. He adds no value as a batsman and his bowling is not test quality.
