Waugh averaged 80 in the final 12 months of his career' date=' Taylor was aound 60+ in the last 12 months and Katich was 50+ in the last 12 months[/quote'] and still they were excluded because Aussies wanted to blood youngster. When Michael Clark was first picked in place of Steve Waugh, his FC average was 36.

and still they were excluded because Aussies wanted to blood youngster. When Michael Clark was first picked in place of Steve Waugh' date=' his FC average was 36.[/quote'] Waugh was never forced out, stepped away on his own. And one of the drivers for that decision was the urgency to handover the test captaincy to the 2003 WC winning skipper Punter who was scoring runs everywhere around that time. And no Clarke did not replace Waugh in the side. He made his test debut in India only because Punter was not fit for the first 2-3 tests in 2004. Taylor too was never forced out, stepped out on his own. If he had to to be forced out, would have been a period when he was struggling between 97 and 98. Katich went out as Clarke saw his a potential threat to his captaincy and the personal history the two have had. Was their best batsman in last 3 years before being dropped while the Aussies stuck with Hussey and Punter.

No. He was not willing to leave. He was told before the series that this is going be his last series even if he does well or not. Here, our ATGs are not doing well for long now and our selectors and BCCI is still not able to take any call. I do not think we will see a different batting line up than this in the next home series as well aside from any injury. Our selectors do not have in them to talk to these ATGs and says that this is going to be their last test series.

What is interesting to note then is that despite the 3 Aussies being in good form, they were asked to go. Its not that we don't have it in us to dismiss non-performers. We did get rid of an "out-of-form" Dada who was then forced to up his game to make a comeback and Bhajji, who clearly has lost the motivation to come back. The problem is the selection panel lacks people who talk straight. They don't want to answer the questions about why they dropped XYZ player, they don't want to rotate players coz the players themselves are against it. They don't want to usher in young players while constantly maintaining that "this team can beat any team". This reeks of delusion coz we lost 8-0 in England, couldn't even win practice matches in both England and Australia and have lost 3 games down under too. To me, this is just stupidity. But then again, this is the way our cricket runs and we get rid of people who try to change it. We deserves this caning.
