Worshipping someone is not the criteria for the award. I am sure more folks worship Rainas and Yuvrajs whereas hardly anyone would even know who Dhyan Chand was, but that doesn't mean Yuvraj and Raina get the award ahead of Dhyan Chand. Awarding the award to SRT over Dhyan Chand would have been a slap in the face of all non-cricketing sportspersons.

You are wrong friend. I am no blind Sachin supporter. He supports many charities especially for children. His wife Anjali who is a paedetrician is also involved in many charitable activities with children (in fact she is supposed to coordinate most of Sachin's charitable work). Sachin just doesn't advertise his charitable work and the full details are not known. No wonder, this guy has shown his mettle in almost every aspect of his life...his face has always reflected decency at the same time (controlled ) agression, sportsmanship,humility,patriotism (he is one player who really plays to make India win!), and now KINDNESS AND HUMANITY!!! India is proud of Sachin, its little gem! Ãò
