rkt.india Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 But you cannot possibly defend a guy who averages 73 in Australia 58 in England 48 in SA 49 in SL 41 in NZ I will defend him until you find a bowler who has bowled or can bowl more impact spells than him. I do not blame him for his poor show. It is lack of development and system should be blamed for that. If he was in Aus or in England, he would have been a top test bowler in the world right now.

If he was in Aus or in England' date=' he would have been a top test bowler in the world right now.[/quote'] +1 We don't have fast bowling culture and We don't have fast bowler's captain as well. The whole thinking is negative against fast bowlers in our country. Here our captain does not know the true meaning of some cricketing terms which helps fast bowlers. I give you a few examples. 1. Proactive = Our captain thinks proactive means removing a fast bowler if he goes for 1 or 2 fours and bringing the spinners on. 2. Mid-on or mid-off = On whole Australia tour, our fielders never realized that standing at mid-on or mid-off, they should be 10 meters deeper and 7 meters straighter to save the straight drives. Instead our mid-on, mid-off fielders were always standing closer to batsmen and a little bit wider. As a result, we leaked unlimited no of runs straight down the wicket whereas our 7 out of 10 straight drives were stopped by their fielders. 3. Point fielder= For our team, point fielder means standing at point. But you have to adjust that position as well depending on the bowler and batsmen. I never see Indian fielders making that adjustment. 4. Slip Fielders= This is one chewtiya problem which you will always see with Indian fielders. Indian slip cordon is always filled of all oldies like Dravid, Laxman, Sachin and Sehwag. Now, because their fingers hurt when ball comes faster to them at slips, they always stands 2-3 meters deeper. As a result, there are most no of catches dropped in the slips by Indian team in last 1 or 1 and a half year as compared to any other team. 5. Gully Fielder and Batpad fielder= Indian team seriously don't know how and when to use gully position and batpad position.
chainsmoker1985 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 There is no doubt if Ishant Sharma was in some team like Pakistan, Australia, England or South Africa and had played more than 15-20 test matches, he'd have been much effective bowler. I remember, Stuart Broad who was very similar to Ishant when he burst on the screen age wise and physique wise and speed wise as well but now how much he has improved overall ! Incredible! Their teams work-ethics are so good and competitive as compared to ours.

achilles Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 What a quality discussion we are having in this thread. Sometimes, I wish the Administrators of the game were on ICF.
adi B Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Jason Gillespie setting up Lara. I was a big fan of this guy. Guys like Ishant can learn a thing or two from him. he wont learn a thing ever, i can solely take that as a guarantee

If he was in Aus or in England' date=' he would have been a top test bowler in the world right now.[/quote'] But those come in between long droughts. He clearly lacks variation as a bowler. Also he can't work over a batsman like Zaheer does. On certain pitches his length can be really effective. that is where he was successful. you cannot bowl one good spell followed by 10 crappy spells. Sreesanth can say the same albeit more top order wickets in his kitty. Sreesanth has a bit more variation. But he has absolutely no control. Until Ishant learns the art of taking the ball away from right hander from a good length he is going to continue this trend. Bowler like him can at best be a 2nd change bowler not one who can lead an attack or come one change.
Sid Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 How good bowler RP was. He was below par Ishant and in India he was poor. RP was nothing special' date=' was more inconsistent than Ishant. There was 1-2 four ball in every over of his. You guys have such a shot memories. There is no other bowlers who have bowled more effective and impact spells than Ishant in tests bar Zak probably.[/quote'] Nothing to do with short memories yaar, just that you know a bowler is brainless when he doesnt improve at all in 4 years.Still he doesnt have any idea on how to bowl to left handers and is way to inconsistent in bowling his only wicket taking ball i:e an in coming ball. What makes me disappointed about Ishant is ,he has full backing of the captain and team management, only plays test matches or should I say is shielded from ODI hammering which he is likely to get but still he is useless and worthless. When you have so many things going in your favour and still you come up with the phrase "I am unlucky" in a press confrence, then its more than disappointing,as the bowler thinks he is doing everything right, which he isnt. And all those impact and effective spells count for **** ,if wickets are not taken consistently.
Chaos Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 omg how cocky of a bowler is shane? lol he made mc millan look like a kid hahaha

At the end of the day figures have to show that. He has become far too predictable with no real variations to be effective in various conditions. Hence regression. When you are new to international you might surprise a few. But over a period you get found out.

He is one of the worst i have seen when it comes to bouncers. Bouncer doesn't mean just pitching the ball half way down . slower ball? lol seriously. Again i repeat he relies only on angle. That so called stock ball is so predictable these days. Hence he has nothing else to rely on. Only ball that he consistently bowls is "short and wide". He has failed on all 4 surfaces that assist seam bowlers. SA, England, OZ and NZ.
vvvslaxman Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 Back to topic..our bowlers simply has no plans to plan a batsman out apart from Zaheer to some extent Praveen. They rely on magic deliveries and batsman's mistakes. One of the reason why our bowling attack so impotent. Atleast we used to be potent on helpful surfaces. Nowadays even in helpful conditions we just bowl tripe.
