My initial list has the following in no particular order - The Batting Buddha, Vivian Richards, Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Yuvraj Singh, Saurav Ganguly, Ricky Pawning, Bevan, MS Dhoni, Mahela Jayawardene, Sanath Jayasuriya, Herschelle Gibbs, Adam Gilchrist, Saeed Anwar, Inzamam ul Haque

My list - SRT, Viv, Jones, Martin Crowe, Lamb, Miandad, Gilly, Ponting, Bevan, Gibbs, Jayasurya, Inzamam. Much as i love Yuvi and Dhoni cant see they in that list. I am sure I am forgetting some.

To me,at least in 80s, the most underrated top ODI batsman was Allan Lamb ..he won matches for Eng out of nowhere against Aus,WI,Ind but never got his due. In WC92 final the most crucial ball was wicket of Lamb by Wasim - a virtual unplayable ball. just going by decade I would put top 5 for each as 1.80s- Viv Richards, Javed Maindad, D Haynes,Dean Jones and Allan Lamb 2.90s- SRT*,S Anwar, S Ganguly*, M Bevan and Sanath 3.00s-Gilly*,Yuvraj,Ponting*,Dhoni and Hussey With Ricky,SRT,Ganguly, Gillly dominating from late 90s to mid 2000 most.

Pagalpanti Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Well its difficult to say because back in the day S/R wasn't as important as it is now. Anyway 3 batsman I always loved to watch in ODI's were Gilly Lara Ganguly Yes all lefties, all attacking batsman and classy stroke makers.

What is it that has impressed you about his batting?

Not in terms of distance but those who could set the scene ablaze? Kapil, Afridi and Cairns come to mind. Who else?
