Ultimate_Game Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Couple of things there UG. a) In the games the two played together here is their performance: Srinath: 12 Tests 33 wickets@36.72 0 5ers Kapil: 12 Tests 39 wickets@28.9 2 5ers So clearly Kapil didnt come 2nd best, and thats purely as a bowler mind you. b) I do agree that Srinath should have played lot more, maybe that would helped him gain some more experience playing alongside Kapil instead of pitching against him. At the time we had Kapil-Prabhakar opening and no reason why Srinath should not have been 1st change. All the three should have been played. The issue was less to do with Kapil and more with whole nonsensical Indian philosphy of playing 7 batsmen, which continues to this day. Compare this with Pakistan, say, where Wasim-Waqar were bowling alongside Imran. It was never a question of Waqar waiting till Imran retired. xxx It's not just about the numbers. Srinath was a newbie at the time and was on a learning curve and his nos. wouldn't be as good. But it was clear to everyone Srinath was much quicker than Kapil and deserved to be in the team rather than being dropped every other game.

But clearly Kapil was as good in terms of wicket taking ability alone. You would be hard pressed otherwise. My assertion was to show more in the batting mentality of Indian power that be. If it was upto me I would have played both Srinath and Kapil together so the young gun takes over from the legend. Why pick and choose?

It was not Kapil, but Prabhakar who should have made way for Srinath. Kapil was doing very well with the bat averaging 40. Even his bowling average was 30. India would kill to have someone averaging 40 with the bat and 30 with the ball (albeit with a poor strike rate) in the team today.

Matter of fact is Sachin should no longer play ODIs; even if he scores 100 in his next 10 innings; he should save himself for test cricket and even there accept it transition time and move on.

Either ways it was criminal to let Srinath ride the bench for so long. He should have been the first pacer on the team sheet and then the decision to go with either Prabhakar or Kapil.

He has played less than 50%of total ODI not to tell that he skipped playing minnows. After WC 2011 , India has played 25 ODIs and this midget has played only 4 matches out of them arey before asking his head atleast he deserve a better reply from the fans of his own country, this guy has saved us from so many hummiliation and sirf 3 match he hasnt performed and all the losers have comeout for this mans head. Some one is saying he is not allowing Rahane some Mukund arey Mofos there were still 21 matches kys jh**t ukhar rahe thay ye saare players.

I would ask you do not mind I havent seen your single post when India won the World Cup, why? I must say its ok to criticize this man for failing in 8 test and 2 series. I was shouting hoarse when India won the T20 cup. Freak I was even shouting when AR Rehman won Golden Globes for Jai Ho. Wo saare post yahin hai. Kuch kaam mein busy hoonga. Aajkal thora fursat/vela hoon. If anything SRT didnt do ghanta in final, I should have been out since Gambhir and Dhoni have always been backed by me. So it was as good a chance as any for me. :headshake:

Similarly he did wrong by playing some 200 tests. See how good it would have been if we had given opportunities to 20 youngsters with 10 tests each. We would have had much stronger bench strength.

Sachin has denied opportunities to thousands of aspirants by holding onto one spot for 22 years. Who knows, guy in your Avtar could also have played and succeeded for India, if Sachin had not been so selfish. There should be rules for equal distribution of opportunities in Cricket too.

It may be a difficult task but surely you can identify some of these? I mean you are anyway spending time with 20 year old picture of SRT as your avatar everyday, why not spend some time looking for what could-have-been? :woot:
