Umesh Yadav: Is He Another Loser or Another Failure of Our System?

The problem is not to do with selection (somewhat ... I strongly feel that Tiwary and Rahul Sharma deserve a chance, but thats a separate issue) Yadav's problems are the same as all the other bowlers. In between the wicket taking deliveries, they consistently bowl 1 or 2 bad balls per over. This makes it next to impossible to maintain pressure and thus even when someone bowls a great over its uneventful because of the already high scoring rate. Look at the way Australia bowled in Brisbane. No real half-volleys, if it was short, it was right at the head with venom, otherwise just in that corridor where the field is set. If batsmen are to score off that they will need to take risks and at the moment, nearly all the bowlers are bowling in such a way that batsmen aren't even taking risks. Its unfair to single out Yadav, when Vinay, Pathan and Zaheer have all made the same mistakes.

He has been extremes till now in his career...either too good or too poor...not in between...
He was in between at Adelaide where he took 2 wickets for 48 runs I think. I think he should come up the order above Vinay Kumar. Atleast, he has more application than Vinay Kumar in batting at lower order. And when he swings the bat hard, the ball reaches the boundary in no time:dance::dance:

Why is it so difficult for some of us here to accept that Umesh has not been bowling with any accuracy or plan at all. Even when he got wickets in the tests or in earlier series, it was due to some brilliant quick deliveries amidst a host of wayward ones. He needs to improve this aspect if he wants to be a good bowler .... period. Indian cricket has never supported or groomed young fast bowlers to become better bowlers without losing speed. I hope Umesh does not face the same faith. Bowling coach and seniors should guide him and support him to bowl well and to a plan at his natural high speeds. I am not sure he is receiving that guidance and encouragement like a Pattinson Starc or Cummions is.
I thinks Fans need to understand he is a fast bowler and as zaheer khan said he has been allowed freedom to go and bowl fast and look for wickets bowl bouncers and yorkers ,He is going to have off days but when he does he will run through a side. This is the job of a young strike bowler ,He will learn line and length with time.Anyways these are meningless odi games.

I will never keep out Umesh Yadav outta my team. But he needs to show some intelligence, or some intent while bowling there. Atleast he can keep one off-stump line if not more. Just keep bowling on and around off-stump with pace and batsman will do mistake. At the moment, he is just going through the motions. And on top of that, he fields like he is fielding in his backyard. Sometimes he is too charged up while fielding and other times he is very lazy while fielding. He needs to maintain a standard in his game. He has the capability. Atm, he is like a laborer there, who has done his daily routine work, takes his daily wages and goes back home and doesn't care about anything else.

No that was a very good performance on a patta where Aus scored 270.

One key point bro- Australian pattas can never be called the REAL-PATTAS. But yes, Umesh bounced out Forrest there and bowled Clarke which was quite a good performance. That was the time when we all were thinking that he will now move upwards and Gambhir also commented that Umesh was the find of the tour. But, since that 1 match, things have really gone bad and his game has really slipped down a long way.

:hmmm: :hmmm: Really? BTW, what Zaheer said, it should not be like this. You cannot leave a rookie like this, and you should be making plans for him and if the plan fails, you should be accounted responsible for that, not the rookie

Too early to call Umesh a failure but yup hyping him up just for bowling at 150 is OTT. Every other Aussie bowler touches 150 kph, but the key is line and length. WIthout line & length all you get is a Mohd Sami and hope Umesh learns that and focuses on improving his accuracy in terms of line & length.

DeLange may not have hit his natural length as yet but he has already picked a 7 wkt haul against a formidable batting line-up against Sri-Lanka. You know they played him as a surprise weapon against Sri-Lanka in that test. Pl try to understand what I am saying. They, South Africa knew that DeLange in his first match can work as a surprise weapon but at the same time, it can go against them as well. He can be belted all around the park. Its totally different thing having a surprise weapon and its totally different knowing how to make the best use of it. Thats my whole point. And South Africa made sure that DeLange just had to be successful, there was no other choice. They didn't have that lazy attitude in their mind- Ok he is a new-comer. He can take some time settling into international cricket. They had only one option in their minds that Delange had to be successful. About your second point on Pattinson, there you are saying the same thing that I am saying. Look at how many matches Pattinson has played, 2 ODIs and 4 Tests so far. And in this such a short span of International cricket, Australian team mgt and coaching staff have recognized Pattinson's weakness and started working on it and got the results against NZ and India. Whereas Umesh Yadav has just not been even able to settle his feet in international level as yet. Thats what I meant by 'Failure of our System'.
ok isnt injury of pattinson also a failure of management ? and not settle in international stage umm dont think so i think some spells he bowled showed he is here to stay.. he lets say is some one like wht finn was year ago.. now he needs to refine his skills u dont look like world beater in first season of ur career its very rare.. people give example of cummings,.. but even yadav bowled well in perth.. its consistency i have to work for.. cos talent most of times at this level is there so no he is no failure he is one of the finds of the tour where we failed was ishant.. ask urself at start of tour.. with only some good games against west indies.. would u have taken performances of yadav ? 1 5 wicket haul.. decent avg and good strike rate? i didn't even expect this!

Not bowling Yadav from ball 1 is a travesty...whilst the likes of Lee, Malinga, Steyn always bowl the first over. It is fecking scandal and joke from Dhoni and management's side not opening with Yadav. What's point of having a 90plus guy coming in a 20th over? absolutely none! Sometimes you have think who is the bigger moron between Dhoni and Fletcher.

+1 and no 90 miles per hour bowler who is new and not really consistent is used to stop runs u reither play them to get quick wickets and attack otherwise u dont.. cos he is never going to be a bower who will give 30-40 runs in 10 overs w/o picking wickets but yes on his day he can get 5 wickets in no time and win u match on his own atleast at the start of career i dont expect any genuine fast bowler to be consistent

I am simply saying Umesh is as fast as most of the Aussie pacers which is nothing special. It's not as if he's the only bowler who's 150+ and others are clocking 120s & 130s. As for swinging the ball at 150+ I didn't see that this series, and I guess even the opposing team's batsmen haven't seen it either and that's why h has been taken apart in every game he has played. In fact he has been hit around so much that he hasn't even completed his quota of overs in most (if any) of the games and in the previous game Raina and Kohli had to bowl 49th and 50th over respectively with "fast bowler with swing" watching from th boundary. At the moment Yadav is another Sami who only has speed but nothing much. He has no control and no consistency in his line & length, and is easy fodder for decent intl batsmen. Just to be clear his bowling figures of 50 odd in 7 or 8 overs in most ofthe games have been recorded on Aus pitches. Just imagine if Umesh had to bowl to the same batsmen in subcontinent.

sorry have u only watched odis ? cos in test i saw him swing in each and every test at one time or another it was another fial of mangement to not to play him in perth where ball swings and do u expect him to swing 20 over old ball ? thats the whole point isnt it ? old ball in australia wont swing .. wont even reverse swing!!!! now u see why we all are complaining ?

But aren't we discussing odi performances? As for Tests yes he bowled some good deliveries but he was all over the shop in Tests as well. He has to be more consistent in line & length to be effective. I get your point about Umesh brought on to bowl a lot later in the game against Aus but surely against SL he bowled with a new ball (just 2 overs old ball to be precise) and he didn't do much. Could it be that he really is inconsistent and needs to be much better while bowling?

^^straight boundaries were short, he had to bowl shorter, so not to get driven. only other guy bowling at his speeds was malinga he too went for 7 runs an over. aussie had better control at short, back of length stuff. in india if u ball short it sits up and can be whacked so our bowlers are rarely good with short ball.

That's not a good excuse for bowling half-trackers. As a fast bowler, or for any bowler, you get wkts when you pitch the ball up. Bouncers look good in hihlights but wkts generally fall to pitched up deliveries and Umesh didn't bowl very many of those in his 1st spell. A fast bowler has to be consistent with his line and length as it puts pressure on batsmen and they try to do something they wouldn't have done otherwise. Umesh is all over the place and is not able to build pressure on the batsmen.

I think Umesh is trying to blast out the batsmen with fast full balls. Don't think he has enough plans behind his bowling. To be honest i don't expect Umesh to be a great successful ODI bowler anytime soon. I would rather want him to a great Test match bowler. Infact he should be allowed to grow in the Test arena before being picked for ODIs. In Pyjama games you can manage with some upcoming pacers like Dinda, Tyagi.. etc.
