Needs to work on his bowling. With his inconsistent bowling and average fielding unless he chips in regularly with 6-7 overs every match' date=' hard to see him having a regular place in the side.[/quote'] this! jadeja, raina, save atleast 10-20 runs every match. even if they average 20-30 with bat their actual worth is around 30-40 runs per match.

When quick 20-30 runs are required , he is the best bet. But he can't bat according to the situation. Hit and miss kind of player. Yes , I agree on Uthappa , they can try him at that pos. Or else we need to develop Raina as a no. 7 and decent part-time bowling option. As I can see that he doesn't have temperament to play a long innings at no. 5.
The guy has 2 100s in odis and has scored double ton in Ranji. That's good enough for me for playing long innings from no. 7 position. And again the main question I raised earlier... which batsman in the world is consistent at no. 7? I doubt very many would do that and I uspect Yusuf's stats would be pretty decent for a no. 7 plus we know he can bat - if you can score runs against SA in SA you should be able to make runs against most teams. At least he's strets ahead of the likes of Jaddu and Pappu. His bowlin is a bit weak but surely Jaddu can't be played at 7 for his bowling. I would let Raina be at 5 or 6, but would bring in Uthappa as a no. 7 and backup keeper to Dhoni when Dhoni needs a break or as a regular no. 7 bat. We used to have guys like Kaif bat at no. 7 in the past, so why not try Uthappa? He deserves a run in the team.

Innings you have mention does prove that he can bat ,but overall he needs to improve his game to become more consistent.

Pls don't put Yusuf and Raina in the same category as Jaddu. Raina and Yusuf have won us games with the bat where quick runs were needed and have actually scored big runs in the past. Jaddu is in the same category as Ashwin at best.

I'm not putting him in the same category .I'm just saying they are better in that particular department .

Most good teams have a good all rounder at that spot. His bowling is piss-poor compared to them. Outside India he'll be as good as a liability as his batting is once in a blue-moon and bowling nowhere near to be good enough. I'm not backing Jaddu and Pappu but Yousuf is not good enough. Uthappa can be tried at no. 7.

You said batting wise they are all average. Not really... Yusuf and Raina may be average but Jaddu has his own category of sub-averageness. It's akin to middle class in India and the difference between upper middle class and lower middle class, i.e. Yusuf & Raina are part of that upper average class whereas Jaddu inhabits the bottom of the lower average class :--D Raina at least won us the World Cup by playing crucial knocks under pressure against Aus in Q/F and Pak in S/F. i doubt Jaddu can ever play an innings like those.

That's what we thought but he proved us wrong in SA and hasn't really gotten a longer run in the team since then. In the world cup he was never called upon othr than in the slog overs and failed in just one odi series in WI where everyone other than Rohit failed. I still think he is much better at no. 7 than Jaddu or Pappu. Agreed his bowling is not that good but we have 4 specialist bowlers and the 5th bowler's can be shared by Raina, Sehwag, Yusuf, Yuvi (if he's back) etc. We used to do so back in the days when Kaif used to bat at no. 7 and he never used to bowl. At least Yusuf can bowl a few overs and he lends more depth with the bat. Even Uthappa can be tried at the spot and whoever performs better over say 3 series can be given a longer run.

The fact that the team is losing now, just makes every player on the bench seem so much better. Once they come back and fail, calls will be made for the next talunted yengster or a tried and tested failure to come back and the musical chair will continue. Uthappa and Yusuf are hacks who were figured out pretty quickly on the international scene. Apart from the two hundreds, there is little that Pathan has achieved except making quickfire 15s of 10 balls and getting out, but every hack comes good 1 or 2 times- Heck even Ahmad Shahzad has 2 hundreds. Bowling and fielding wise, YP brings nothing to the table and neither is he good enough to play as a specialist batsman. Jadeja might be hugely overrated, but Pathan is not even as good as him and thats not saying much.

Yusuf needs to evolve as far as his game is concerned, along with the big hits, he needs to learn to rotate strike, hit accross the ground and learn to hit boudaries with an improvement in his range of strokes. He is a bit one dimensional, and that makes the percentages lower, certainly cmpetetion is always good, away from home, both Jadeja and Pathan need to fight for places.

BUt jaddu ne bowling me kya ukhad liya outside India, example the ongoing CB series an England ODI series. Jaddu's bowling is only good in Indian conditions.

Again , I'm not saying Jaddu is the solution.Out of SC , we will have to find someone who can add actual depth to the batting and bowling.
