I have had this 4-5 times in the past 2 years or so.It is very scary. Your eyes are open but you just cannot seem to move.Sometimes I wondered if that was a dream. Not any more. Glad to know its not a serious problem though.

I haven't had it in a while but last time it happend, it felt like there was someone in my room. I was scared sh!tless. Then I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep.

^ Exactly.. the first time I had it..felt like someone was uttering sanskrit verses in my ear.. I was more than convinced my room was haunted. :haha: For me it always happens at the end of the sleep.. so the going back to sleep part has never been an issue

This happens mostly which u sleep on ur back.. try sleeping on ur side (on ur right specially) , u will never face this problem ever.

Has happened to me couple of times. First time, was very scary. I think it is because you have rolled on your back and in deep sleep ..the brain is slow to react. During sleep, sometimes ear pop out, and you feel that your brian is going to explode.

So let me get this straight... you had it few times in the past 2 years, but didn't know if it was serious till reading this post? What were you thinking?

so ur aware that u cant move ? and that ur awake but sleep ? :hmmm: how do u get out of it ?
The science behind is that when you sleep..in order to protect you from injuries, the brain paralyses the entire body except the vital movements like breathing... Sleep paralysis happens when you enter the 'awake' state but the brain still has you on a lockdown.. software glitch if you may. The only thing you are aware of is your eyes seeing everything in your room...its the most helpless feeling ever, your body feels like its made of lead - can't even move a finger. The first time getting out of it is an intense struggle as the brain plays tricks on you - you feel like someone is pressing you down/sitting on your chest and is now standing right next to you..sometimes you hear words being spoke to you, laughter..you are simply trying to jump up and confront this person - but you can't !.. you'd be awake and helpless for what seems like forever..and then when you can finally move your arms , you vow never to sleep again.. :haha: Subsequent times you becom aware of what it really is... stop struggling really as there is no point and try to doze off again and see if you have better luck when you wake up the next time. Sleep Apnea is way more serious than this, that requires medical attention as it could be fatal.

It is truly a scary experience. Never experienced one. It is like sometimes you can't speak in your dreams when you are in danger. You think it is real at the time of dream. So you feel very helpless. Infact it is even worse. Because it is real !!

OK' date=' I will blame on sleep paralysis the next time I am late for office. Does it have a technical term?[/quote'] This is the only term I've seen used.. you could maybe send them a pic too.. Nightmare_edit.jpg
