Is Ashwin our main spinner now in all formats?

Very reason Bhajji was dropped because of his lack of wicket taking skills.
In tests yes, but he is still a good ODI bowler as the economy is great. In one of his last ODI series in WI he bowled very economically. If there was a world cup tomorrow he would be lead spinner in ODI and T20. One of our few bowlers who is guaranteed to finish his quota of overs every game.
Secondly Ashwin outbowled Ojha in the WI series.
But Ashwin was relying bit more on mystery such as carrom ball e.t.c whereas Ojha was just bowling cleverly and out thinking batsmen. The bowling averages of both bowlers were still pretty similar.
Also in the warm up match in Australia Ojha was outbowled by Ashwin. Ojha's problem is he is extremely slow in the air and off the pitch. If the pitch has nothing to offer he is fairly easy to negotiate as he doesn't have a good arm ball like Murali Karthik has. Both of them have some short comings. But i would back Ashwin in helpful conditions . He is more potent there.
He got a few wickets with the arm ball v WI but I know what you mean, Ashwin can take more wickets but has more bad days. I like the stability of Ojha and ability to apply pressure from one end with tight bowling. When you don't have a world class spinner that is a much needed quality-needing a good thinker and someone bowling tight.
In one dayers Ashwin's big advantage is not just picking up wickets but ability to bowl inside power plays. He is no mug with bat either. Only thing is fielding. In this case Ojha, Ashwin, Bhajji all 3 are crappy fielders.
Ashwin is good in power plays for sure and can bat. Bhajji can do both too.

This guy needs to learn some discipline though. At times, he bowls too short and on the leg side way too many times. Or else he can be a good option. He can bat a bit. If he improves significantly in his batting and improves fielding as well then we can manage with him. I don’t think Bhajji was any worse/better than him.

Two matches they played together http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/433601.html http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/433599.html How exactly Bhajji is better than Ashwin here in both matches. Ashwin opened the bowling in both the matches.

We play at home for the next 2 years. Both Ashwin and Ojha are going to play each of those tests and will win us many more tests like they did vs the WI.
India might go for 3 spinners like in the 90s.

In those 2 matches, both performed the same more or less. Also can't just judge Bhajji from those two matches, he has been playing since 98 and been consistently economical.

Who cares if he gives 5 or 6 runs less than other spinners as long as he can't buy a wicket unless a batsman commits harakiri. This guy is useless even in domestic matches. There are half a dozen spinners that are better than Bhajji let alone Ashwin. Appanna, Bhargav bhat, Rahul Sharma.

Ashwin is a pretty average spinner currently' date=' lets face it. He will be taken to cleaners by most teams home or away. However since he's a youngster, he should be persisted with. Few more chances should be given if he can expand his armory or improve on his current one.[/quote']

Bud, how do you quote so many posts? Is there a way to do so? Do let me know if there is rather than typing QUOTE and /QUOTE manually.

Keep pressing M+ for the post you want to quote and then when you're done, click on Advanced. New window will open with all those quotes. Or instead of clicking on advance just click quote on last post you selected as M+, new window will open with all the quotes you selected M+ on.

To say that Ponka is disappointed would be an understatement. Very unethical and immoral being you are and it hurts to say that :((. however you've shown your real face to the world now and ICFers will think twice to post in your threads whenever you create them. Thats why posters like Sir John are better than you who post random stats instead of a thread asking for other's opinion. Sir John >>>> You :finger:

We never tried out Ojha in the ODI series..Was Ojha in the ODI squad? If yes the I believe Jaddu ate his place..Would've loved to see how Ojha would've fared in the series.. So because of Jaddu, Ojha's ODI career is as good as over. So we have to rely on Ashwin to deliver but his batting is better than Jaddu.. Basically Jaddu is like what Patel is in the England ODI squad. But Swann still manages to do well, inspite of being an orthodox spinner.. I think Ojha's ODI career is over. He should concentrate on Test cricket..
Ojha can't bat, can't field and is a lazy bastard. He can play when we pick 2 spinners in home tests. One of the problems with Harby was his lack of wickets in the middle overs. Ojha is not going to be a much more attacking option imo. Also with 20 overs of PP, Ashwin has the edge. The fact is that we don't really have any great tailunt coming through. Ashwin was pretty mediocre but he needs to be given a longer run.

Not just Ojha, I don't think any other spinner will come up in near future, atleast in ODIs. In Test matches we have to see how Ashwin bowls in home series.. My main concern is that his wilyness is missing.. He used to be a clever, thinking bowler..He's now just resorted to Bhajji-like round the wicket attack, most of the time..
