Crookbond Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Way to miss the point. The article highlights the fickle nature of criticism in the media and among fans whose attention span is less than the last few matches. Jadeja was a brilliant find after the Eng-Ind ODI series, now he is only in the team because of the CSK connection. Kohli was a FTB and Rohit was a tailunt before the Perth test. Now Kohli is the top batsman, future captain and Rohit deserves to be dropped. Sehwag deserved to be dropped certainly after his performance in the last two tours. Now that he is dropped, its magically become a stupid decision and the media attributes it to ulterior motives. The article doesnt say that Sachin's place cannot be questioned. It asks why dont we apportion the blame proportionately among all the reasons that we lost the England and Australia. Surely SRT was not the only reason we lost. So blame him by all means, but dont ignore the underlying weaknesses with the team just by pinpointing one scapegoat to blame it on, as if all our troubles will disappear the day SRT decides to hang up his boots. Glad to see someone looks at this article as I do.
mishra Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 :nice: Very well put...... When it comes to Tendulkar, Everyone here and in Indian media are Parapsychologist. Currently meter reading says "He is playing for 100th ton"

Read what I said above. The people who think Sachin is a God or was a God still think the same. Their mentality will not change whatever happens, people who think he is just a cricketer, an outstanding one though will think the same and compare and talk about him only as a cricketer not God or anything else. Adding, he is talking about media and media is always like that and will be, "bin paindi ka lota." Do you think Sachin bhakts will be abusing Sachin or asking him to retire" no, but fans who are not kind of bhakts but general cricket fans will be because it is time to talk about his retirement, especially from ODIs, and no one can deny it. The biggest issue in this article is he talked about how Indians make and break a hero overnight, but then we most Indians are also obsessed with 100s, records, 1ooth 100, etc..
yoda Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 BS article. It is not all about Sachin. Yes he was piss poor in Eng, so was anyone not named Dravid. Yes he was piss poor in Aus, so was anyone not named Kohli. As much as Sachin fanatics (the author included) want to make it an all Sachin affair, he gets blamed along with many others. The issue is that the fanatics will filter out everything and focus only on the fact that their beloved Sachin was blamed.

There are more dominant voices of dropping RD and VVS from tests, SRT-related talks are only about ODIs because he does not fit in the scheme of things in ODIs. No one is asking him to leave tests yet.

Playing him on bouncy tracks where he is walking wicket and resting when we play on dead pitches where he is one of the best. Its a wrong move.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: What an article from a fanboy :cantstop: What did we do to deserve Sachin? I can't even understand what he means. SRT is just a cricketer who was made a demi-god by the same folks who the author thinks doesn't "deserve" him. Every nation gets good cricketers in a while with Gavaskar and Kapil other 2 legends for India; Bradman, Ponting, Warne, Waugh, McGrath, Gilchrist, Border, Lillee etc. for Aus; Richards and the pacemen for Aus; Akram, Waqar, Imran for Pakis etc. So should we be asking what they did or didn't do to "deserve" those players. People should get over this hero-worshipping mentality. SRT is a professional cricketer who was one of the best at his peak - nothing less and nothing more. For people who call him "god", if that were true it should have been India and not Aussies who would have won 4 World Cups by now.

Ever thought that these same fans and media made SRT what he is? If he had been born in Aus his career would have been over a few years back and he would have been just one of the good cricketers like Waugh, Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath etc.

SRT got so much adulation over the last 23 years so shouldn't he get some criticism when he's not doing much?

Raghav_12 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 The guy has never given such press conferences in his career (except after the Aussie game in the 2003 WC). Not gonna happen. Yes, recall that moment. After first two matches where we could barely manage to beat Netherlands and bowled out for 132 agaist Australia, Indian fans were up in arms. Sachin held press conference and told that he is going to take care of the issue. And boy what a way he did it. Took India all the way to final with good sight at the cup, until bowlers screwed it for us. He is not going to explain himself in press after those 22 years of comitment and dedication. Fans should be matured enough to understand. But then Indian fans are known for their hooligani-sm all over the world for a reason.
The Outsider Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Does this do kaudi ka article deserve it's own thread or should it be merged with the myriad bhakti threads on Tendulkar. What a bunch of lunatics these people are!
Raghav_12 Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I agree to a few above' date=' [b']SRT's coninuous ODI failures is chipping away at his own legacy. But we all know one century will elevate him back to that pedestal again. SRT is takin a risk in going for that 100th 100, If he doesnt get there his image might take a big beating by the time he retires. I have been a huge fan of the guy and I sincerely hope that 100 comes sooner than later cannot watch him getting out for low scores again n again n again I laugh when I read this. Continuos ODI failures?? Continuous failures may be justified as it includes his failures to contribute significantly on two away tours, but ODI failures!! He didn't play anything after WC (until this series), where he was India's best batsman by a margin and I don't understand where he failed continuosly in ODI's. It is prime example of rationality being compromised because of herd or mob mentality.

Indian fans and hooliganism :omg: I don't even recall one incident where there was a fight after or before the game or where fans got injured or where they torched the city etc. The only incident that can remotely be termed as hooliganism in the 96 WC semis where the crowd thre bottled on the field and stopped the match. Other than that pls provide me examples of "hooliganism" by Indian fans. Indian fans are some of the best and most weel behaved fans you will ever come across. Not one incident can be found of an Indian fan of physically assaulting or harming anyone or making nuisance home or away. Indian fans follow their team passionately and support them no matter what considering the cr@ppy record of the Indian team over the years. They lin up outside a stadium hours before a game, or wake up in the middle of the night to watch the likes of Tendulkar, and in fact most of the time they are the ones who are actually kicked, beaten and caned while waiting outside the stadium to watch a game with valid tickets in hand. Pls don't make stuff up just to biggy up Tendulkar and denigerate Indian fans. Oh, by the way SRT was made a demi-god by the same "hooligans". By the way it wouldn't hurt you to find out out what "hooligan" or "hooliganism" really means.
