GautiMaan Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 So,who do you think would be the best choice for the Asia Cup? Yusuf Pathan Perhaps the most attacking batsman in the country today. His bowling is decent and fielding reliable. The Baroda Bomber can deal some heavy damage,if he ever takes off. Suresh Raina Raina played some invaluable innings during India's victorious world cup campaign. His heaves over midwicket can turn the game in the subcontinent. He can also bowl a few overs of tidy off spin.If only the BCCi comes up with a "zero bouncers per over" rule in ODI cricket to ensure his success... Ravinder Jadeja Jadeja averaged 109 with the ball and 16 with the bat in the cb series(though his continued selection makes you wonder if these numbers are reversed).Jaddu can however be handy in the subcontinent. He is also MSD's favourite choice(ahem). Irfan Pathan Once hailed as India's Wasim Akram(now we would gladly take a Chaminda Vaas),Irfan seems to have regained his touch with both bat and ball.He could be a permanent solution.
skindia Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 for next world cup:irfan pathan for matches in subcontinent:yusuf pathan or manoj tiwari
GautiMaan Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 So much support for irfan, but how useful is he in the subontinent? At his pace he will get carted around. We played well enough in the world cup with 7 batsmen.
Old guy Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 So much support for irfan' date='but how useful is he in the subontinent? At his pace he will get carted around. We played well enough in the world cup with 7 batsmen.[/quote'] but we had yuvi then who got more wickets then any other bowler (other then zack ofc)
vvvslaxman Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Irfan is the genuine all rounder with more potential than others. But he needs to take wickets. As a batsman he is even better than some of the upcoming specialist batsman. As a bowler he needs to produce result. Rest of them are either bit part players who is not specialist in either or only part time skills in another department. Atleast Irfan has opened bowling for India and done well in few matches. A genuine all rounder excels equally well in all 3 departments. Bowling, Fielding, Batting.
Old guy Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 pathan with new ball.. is as good as some one like vk or pk :P then add his batting..he is much better over all player now a must in the team!
Number Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 ^ Pathan in death overs is also better bowler than VK and PK.
Old guy Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 ^ Pathan in death overs is also better bowler than VK and PK. probably.. i honestly didn't saw him bowl at end in this series so cant comment against west indies he was rubbish at end in one match he played..
Swing_n_Speed Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Raina is my man. No pretensions, just get's on with the job. He's the best replacement for Yuvi and in subcontinental conditions he's gonna be a handful. Second would be IP. He looked impressive in Australia, both in the batting and bowling departments. But I'm tired of all this talk concerning his amazing potential and what not. He better win us a few games. Period!

Don't think we have any bowler who is good at the death on a consistent basis. Infact all over the world even good bowlers suffer at the death with very few exceptions.

GautiMaan Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 but we had yuvi then who got more wickets then any other bowler (other then zack ofc) True.Yuvi did a fantastic job for us. Im suggesting that we could fill 10 overs with raina/rohit/kohli etc. I remember one match in the cb series when our allrounder(jaddu) didnt bowl a single over,in these cases is it not better to have a specialist than having an allrounder just for the sake of it?

Jadeja's only noteworthy performances have come with the ball against...England. This along with Dhoni's favour however seems to have inflated his reputation. Not sure how many games it might cost us.
The Realist Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 From a very limited field it has to be Irfan Pathan – may not have developed as he should have but at least can bat, bowl and field to a decent standard. Jadeja should be kept as far away from the team as possible. A talentless hack who can either bat or bowl yet somehow has become the favourite of Dhoni & selectors and always plays despite some dreadful performances in Australia. Makes you miss the days of Ajit Agarkar… Sadly there is no true all-rounder on the horizon anywhere.
zaheer Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 One vote for Jadeja.. what is Dhoni's id on ICF?? :--D
