CG Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 To be realistic,Indian bowlers have been hyped up - Irfan-Bowled one ball at 140+ to get gilchrist of a superb yorker and was branded 140+ where as he always was 130k,When performance dropped experts said he has dropped in pace, poor chap tried to increase pace and lost it. Munaf-Burst on to the scen against england after a great performance against them in a tour match and got selected.Touched 147km/h in his second spell ,everybody was going hurray we found a fast bowler,I remember srinath who was commentating said when we dropped few cathes in slips said That slip fielders are dropping catches as they had not fielded in slips to a fast bowler in a long time,But in his third spell munaf went to 125-130k and it was obvious he lacked stamina and then greg chappel said to him what munaf said after a odi mom-"Greg chappel ! line and length" and rest we all know. Balaji-Again lacked in pace even though had a good outswinger. Vrv singh-Had decent pace and a good action and bowled well in sa in 2006 allthough did not get many wickets but was never persisted. P.k-Can swing the ball but lacks in pace hugely. Mithun-Came in to limelight because of dravids saying he had pace and his performances in ranji,Then went to Australia in border gavaskar scholarship programme and changed his action to prevent in juries with it lost his outswinger and pace. Tyagi-Good action and pace but never persisted. Only real talents who came in last few years and can succeed in international level in tests are sreesanth,Ishant,Umesh,Aaron,Tyagi.

rkt.india Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Munaf and Mithun can never be considered exciting. Harbhajan was exciting for a series or two. The man had his moments but he is one of those bowlers who one looks at and goes - Jeez how did he get those many wickets? Munaf was exciting when he first came. I still remember his bowling against England in his debut test series, was clocking 145K.
vvvslaxman Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Are you sure we have had lethal bowlers.. watch what is lethal.. He just casually runs upto the crease bowls this. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytNOth31K60]Joel Garner - UNPLAYABLE BOWLING vs Australia 1985 - YouTube[/ame]
Trundler27 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Our most lethal bowlers right now are jaddu and veenie ko-maar..... i don't see either of them being discouraged.... so this thread is WRONG

vvvslaxman Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 mRMlGk0bGG8 Watch this too. This is nowhere close to Garner's lethal..unplayable deliveries.
CG Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 This is nowhere close to Garner's lethal..unplayable deliveries. offcourse,But its as lethal if you mean by taking wickets and as a spell.
vvvslaxman Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 offcourse' date='But its as lethal if you mean by taking wickets and as a spell.[/quote'] Seriously Ishant is a bad example.. he had few success and tons of failures to go with. Also he is one of the worst bowler of bouncers. For his height little bit of shoulder effort can cause the ball rear of good length. But he just doesn't put more into it.

Ishant is as near to garner for india ,as he can get bounce from a length ,Garner got great bounce of a full length,Ishant when he gets his wrist right get lift of a good length. Its not about bouncers alone.

They get ample time to play him despite him clocking 145 k something i never understand. After pitching his ball loses all the pace. To complicate matters he bowls short and wide more often than not.

Its nowadays,As his wrist is not in right position and he is not able to give the ball a real whip ,which also affects his seam position. When he gets it all right he gets nip off the wicket even at 135k like india tour of australia 2007 or australia tour of india 20008.
Cricket Tragic Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Don't forget the direction. Bowling it wide is of no use.
CG Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Don't forget the direction. Bowling it wide is of no use. When he gets his seam position right as he did in 2007-08 ,The ball he bowls wide nowadays, used to cut in .Seriously he has the worst seam position of any international bowler. Its basic .
Lurker Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Munaf was exciting when he first came. I still remember his bowling against England in his debut test series' date=' was clocking 145K.[/quote'] You are mistaking speed with excitment, and even that momentary. Srinath was exciting. He burst on the scene drawing comparison with Kapil, then making people question why he was not being played more and only improved from there. In the era of premium pacers he held his own. That, to me, is exciting. Not a series of pace burst.
Lurker Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Ishant is as near to garner for india ' date='as he can get bounce from a length ,Garner got great bounce of a full length,Ishant when he gets his wrist right get lift of a good length. Its not about bouncers alone.[/quote'] Garner and Ishant should not be mentioned on the same page, let alone paragraph or sentence. Quit making excuses for these half-rate bowlers dude.

Karan114 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Seriously Ishant is a bad example.. he had few success and tons of failures to go with. Also he is one of the worst bowler of bouncers. For his height little bit of shoulder effort can cause the ball rear of good length. But he just doesn't put more into it. Sums it up. In 45 Tests he has taken just three five-wicket hauls. James Pattinson has already done it twice in four Tests - now that guy is a serious talent. You really can't argue with an average of 37.9 after so many games (he is lucky he plays for India, in most countries such a bad bowler would have been long discarded). Dude is plain rubbish despite having the physical attributes to be a good bowler.

rkt.india Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Yea.. but it just doesn't hurry on to batsman. They get ample time to play him despite him clocking 145 k something i never understand. After pitching his ball loses all the pace. To complicate matters he bowls short and wide more often than not. It is happening because of poor wrist position. In CB series in 2008, his deliveries were going quicker after pitching than Brett Lee. They showed a comparison between Brett Lee and Ishant on a same pace delivery at 141k and similar length. Ishant's delivery after pitch the ball went at 121K while Lee's delivery was 111K. Sheer 10K difference was there, but off late, he has messed with his seam position and wrist. He is still generating pace, but is not getting the zip and seam of the deck due to non-exsistent seam position. Another thing which I notice about him now is he does not stay as upright now as he used be tin 2008 CB series that is why he is losing on some extra bounce bounce as well.
