Ultimate_Game Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 I have followed Indian cricket for quite a while now but I have never seen us struggle as much as we do right now to pick up early wkts. Taking even 2 within the 1st 15 overs seems to be well beyond our reach, and the sad/worrying part is we struggle to do so even against the weaker sides. The only time in recent memory (including the WC) we picked up wkts was against Eng when they toured India, and even then we relied on our spinners. I can't even figure out why we play pacers, and generally 3 of them in a game, when they can't do anything - take wkts, contain runs, contribute with the bat or maybe field well. The toothlessness of our bowling "attack" if it can be termed so is something to be believed and I have no doubts that our bowling is actually weaker than some associate nations like Ireland & Afghanistan. It's a shameful indictment of our team, cricketing system and process that we don't even have 1 consistent wkt taking bowler and other than Zaheer didn't have one for a while now. But who cares as IPL will be round the corner when we crash out of another tourney before making it to the finals. Now we have plumbed such depths, thanks to our bowling, that we can't make it to the finals of a tri-series and struggling to do so even for Asia Cup :omg: Forget fast bowling, we don't even have decent spinners who can stem runs or pick wkts consistently during middle overs. The only one we do have (Rahul Sharma) somehow p***ed our captain and team management so much that the captain will rather have Geoffery Boycott's mother as a bowler than him. I am guessing he must have done something to hurt Ravindra Jadeja to get this sort of response. In nutshell we only have one chance of a win - pile a huge score and hope the opposition scores less. Anything less than 280, or even 300 recently, means you can pack up and go home.
Sachin=GOD Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Bowlers aren't much anyways so lets go with 11 batsmen
The Realist Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 The bowling has been on its last legs for a while. Now you can say it is offically finished - can't restrict or take wickets. Easily the worst bunch of "bowlers" in the world, by a distance.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 18, 2012 Author Posted March 18, 2012 And then we have our team generally down 4 wkts by 15th over or 50 runs, whichever happens first :haha:
Number Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 The worst thing is , other teams have 2 opening pair who are usually accurate and try to take wickets by moving the ball at good pace. Here at 120 kmph speed with short length our bowlers find it difficult to not let it drift on the pads or leg-side. Sorry , at intl level even Zimbabwe won't give you wickets on this line and length.

ganeshran Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Isnt this the bowling lineup you all have been asking for? VK out, Dinda In. Jadeja out, IKP and YP in.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 18, 2012 Author Posted March 18, 2012 Isnt this the bowling lineup you all have been asking for? VK out, Dinda In. Jadeja out, IKP and YP in. The biggest change we asked for was getting Rahul Sharma in. Didn't happen. Either way it's a moot point - our bowling is so poor it's an embarrassment and to think these bowlers are representing a Test nation in intl cricket :omg:
Pagalpanti Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 This is what our bowling will be, unless our batters keep notching up 300+ or chase down big scores we wont have a problem, the day our batting weakens we'll be beaten even in our own back yard. Forget pacers, we aren't even producing decent spinners.
Crookbond Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Currently, I doubt we can take "wickets" but for a batsman's mistake or a fielding brilliance.
asterix Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 The kind of batting we have, all we need one strike pace bowler and a strike spinner.. We have none..Zak was there but I don't see him being a regular in the team... Ashwin is not stepping up or maybe we have had high hopes from him... Hope VK comes back in the finals (can't believe I'm saying that).. There's nothing in the pithes in Bangladesh.. You need clever bowlers to outthink the batsmen.. I'm sorry to say, but Ashwin doesn't appears to be a clever bowler..So might as well try out the rookie Rahul Sharma..
Karan114 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 This is what our bowling will be, unless our batters keep notching up 300+ or chase down big scores we wont have a problem, the day our batting weakens we'll be beaten even in our own back yard. Vijy Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 In ODIs, run containment is as important as taking wickets. Currently, the "spinner" with the best List A stats in the Indian domestic circuit is Iqbal Abdulla. Instead of Ashwin and Jaddu, they should give the likes of R. Sharma, Abdulla, and Ojha a go.
asterix Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Not to forget T20 like bowling changes by the captain.. The bowler is never allowed to settle.. I think it's one of the most important points why our bowling has gone to dogs.. You can always blame the bowlers that they are not bowling well.. But bowlers do need to settle down.. Some bowlers even get their first over after the PP overs (around 16 - 17 overs).. Maximum 2 overs a bowlers gets after that to settle down.. Proper T20 like bowling changes..
DomainK Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 There was a short while when ZAK used to get early wickets for us.
Sachin=GOD Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 There was a short while when ZAK used to get early wickets for us. there was a short while when ZAK used to be completely fir for us :(
saneindian Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Did that on many occasions in the last 12 months 1. WC final SL were 2/60, WC semis Pak were 2/70 2. Had WI at 3/59, 5/77, 4/89, 2/53 in 4 out of the 5 ODIs in WI 3. Had Eng at 2/27, 3/89, 3/61, 2/40 in 4 out of the 7 ODIs in Eng. 4. Had Eng at 2/40, 3/48, 2/53, 2/39, 3/52 in 4 out of 5 ODIs in India 5. Had WI at 3/52, 5/63, 2/42, 4/90, 5/78 in the 5 ODIs in India 6. Had Aus at 3/49, 3/81, 3/57 in 3 out of the 4 ODis in Aus and also had SL at 3/79 in one of the CB series match So in reality we have struggled to take wickets in the last 4-5 matches which have been played on totally dead wickets. Also remember that the current pace attack will not be playing if Zaheer, Umesh, Aaron, Munaf are all fit. Maybe our bowling isn't as bad if we have the first choice attack available The only problem is when we do not take these wickets, we end up giving 290-300 runs to the opposition and thats when we think how this bowling attack is the worst in the world. :P
mishra Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I remember good old Kapil paajis day. One LBW/behind the wicket was always there in first five overs.... :((
