But for good reason the cricket pundits of his day always felt he wasn't greater than his partner-in-crime Hobbs and later Hammond I think he wouldn't even be among England's top 5 batsmen...surely in the top 10. Per me England's best batsmen were Hutton, Barrington, Hobbs, Hammond. I can't decide about the 5th one but my contenders would be Boycott, Grace, Compton, and May

Yes, I'm afraid it will boil down eventually to a Sachin vs X (where X is Bradman, Lara, Ponting, Federer, Pele, etc) thread. My intention was that statistically Stucliffe was G. Pollock and Headley's equal and was Hobbs' contemporary. It looks as if Pandora's box has been opened.

singhprakash72 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Hope we don't fall in trap of 90s were winning against Pakistan (in ODIs ) would absolve team from any bad performance or wrong doing....there is a world outside this subcontinental duel. To me anything less than winning in Aus,Eng and SA is just a blip in overall substandard performance by this team over last one year.
