rabinjackman Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 whats the guarantee for that? Bang batters could have still batted better and faster and chased that imaginary total of yours too.

Zelch Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Thank you Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar for throwing India out of Asia cup. If you had not been selfish for your 100th 100' date=' India might have scored 30-50 runs against Bangbros more and might have won and played the finals! Your selfish knock has made Kohli's epic knock go vain![/quote'] +1
express bowling Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Lets say he was overly emotional for the selfish pursuit. How do you explain the obsession of millions/billions of folks on a daily basis? Did you hear what he said - ( was it in Delhi or Mumbai vs WI) where he scored some decent 70 towards winning. No one talked about it, but every other news paper, random guy was talking - how Sachin failed yet again to get 100th 100. And that was not the only instance in the last one year. I am so thankful to Dhoni and Gambhir that we won WC finals. Else what is otherwise a team game, it would have been labelled yet again failure of an individual - even when certain individual was highest scorer for the team. As I said elsewhere, by incessantly hyping and following some meaningless milestone, people brought it upon themselves. And it was most fitting way to get that milestone. Tendulkar would have defended himself with less vigour. A slighly longer post and you could have published it as a paperback. :winky: The media and a section of fans are obviously to be blamed for this obsession with the 100th 100. If you are so much of concerned about team's cause - not caring about 100s, personal milestones, what is that obsession about "so and so has not scored a 100 since so and so much time". What is so rational about "100s of certain individual does not win matches"? Why do you have to judge individuals based on 100s, 50s scored in a given period, against so and so opposition, contributing to win or loss. Why can't it be as simple as top 5-6 performers for the team. Where have I judged individuals based on 100s and 50s scored in a particular period ? Where have I said that, "so and so has not scored a 100 since so and so much time" ? I judge innings by whether they have been played according to the need of the match and for the teams cause. It becomes even better if it wins matches for the team. Multiple players contributing to a team's win is even better. I have categorically praised Tendulkar's innings against pakistan in this thread only. He did what was needed to be done. Since certain mob has this tendency to bring about fanaticism/bhakti in every other argument. Let me ask you in religious terms. What is worse - "Being happy about your idol and celebrating success" vs "Celebrating the failure of an individual, that you claim not to bother about, in the name of criticism". If some group of people want to idolize someone, why others should bother? Are they distributing pamphlets for Jihad against kaafirs? Ohh and not to mention the endless SRT vs xyz comparisons. If you have to celebrate certain xyz's skills / achievements why does it have to be some filtered statistics vs SRT. Why can't it be a general statistic/metric vs all peers. Why can't one learn to debate based on numbers/facts w/o resorting to personal remarks such as bhakti/fanaticism - especially when countered with contradicting numbers. This talk about fanaticism is so hypocritical, disgusting and boring . Fanaticism is not linked to religion alone. Just look at your own posts. You are a rational poster when it comes to most topics but on the topic of Tendulkar it is only defending him and praising him. A balanced opinion would have both positive and negative comments. Where have I made endless SRT comparisons with xyz ? I have rarely, if ever, compared great players. What is important is whether the players have done the job that is required to be performed by them as they are professionals. You are blaming me of something which i have never done to prove your point because of your obsession with Tendulkar. What contradictory numbers have you countered me with ? Yes. And one has to believe your word that it has not been team/Sachin's primary agenda. Are you part of dressing room ? No one said that the 100th 100 is the most important 100 of all time. Also, as per me - 100 100s are as good as 99 100s. But for some weird obsession with round figures in cricket - 99 has never been as good as 100. I would not have been surprised, had Sachin actually retired last year - there have been endless debates about how he failed to score 100th 100, and not how big an achievement of scoring 99 100 was. A string of 90+ scores is seen as failure to score a 100, if that is done by Sachin, its called choking (remember some time in 2007/2008). With Sachin, its never a win-win situation. Even if you are in the dressing room you would not necessarily know what is going on in Tendulkar's mind. What he is doing on the field gives a reasonable idea of what his intentions are especially since we know how great his abilities are. I would agree with you that with Sacin it is never a win-win situation with a certain section. You are right as far as that point is concerned. Also, talking about the particular innings vs Bangladesh. At the half time, how many of the Indian cricket ke rakhwale opened thread/discussions about the slowest/most disgraceful/most-selfish innings ever? Why suddenly after the match the loss was attributed to one individual performance? The more pertinent point is whether Sachin deserves blame for the loss against Bangladesh ? If there are others that deserve blame -- blame them also I have no problem. Cricket is a professional game and a team game. You praise players who contribute to a team's cause in a particular match and blame them when they do not contribute to the team's cause in that match. It is quite simple really.
Ponka Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 whats the guarantee for that? Bang batters could have still batted better and faster and chased that imaginary total of yours too. rabinjackman Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 That means they would have taken more risks and that would have brought more wickets. The greater the runs, the greater the chances of team batting first has! Or if Sachin had tried to score faster, lost his wicket and the whole team could have collapsed to a score of less than 250 and we wud have still LOST. You see even I can come up with hypothetical scenarios :hatsoff:

zen Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Tendulkar had a huge genuine fanbase during the first 15 years or so of his career. He was never the best player under pressure conditions but almost never gave the impression that he was playing for personal milestones. He was very highly respected and loved by cricket lovers in almost every country barring Pakistan. After that he started showing signs that he was valuing personal milestones more and more. As a Tendulkar fan in the 1990s it feels really sad to see a great man bringing himself down by giving the impression thart he values his records more than wins for his country. The great man himself has said in the post century interview that he lost " 50 kgs " in the last year because of pressure when he was not getting his century. If he does not value it above almost everything else in the world then why such extreme pressure ? The cricketing fraternity all over the world is gertting a chance to criticize him incessantly. Would it not have been better for him if he made a few less records but retired ( whenever that is ) with more respect than records. ( does he really need any more records ? ) There will always be a few fanatics giving weird reasons trying to defend his every action. But the majority of cricket lovers can all see the truth. Tendulkar is losing genuine fans, people who loved his game and the way he played, all over the world. Thinking from his point of view, I hope Tendulkar realizes this. +1

akshayxyz Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 zzzzzzz. Well. my post was about general observation at ICF and not particularly directed at you. and I am not bothered to carry this discussion further. You are free to surf the forum and make your own conclusion on various topics. Let me just say, I joined this site to debate for Sehwag on "Sehwag vs Viv" - on the matters of destructive prowess (when he hit 293). So, my vigor is for anything that I find rational, and against that I find irrational/OTT. I was just passive reader for long time. I hardly indulged in debates on srt vs xyz(mostly don). And I saw both sides being guilty of irrationality one time or another. However, the disgusting manner in which the don side (should I say anti-sachin side) behaved in the debates - made me pick a side recently - for the sake of arguing for everyone's favorite punching bag. Few years/decades down the line - if Kohli/Rohit/Dhoni... manage to reach similar heights, and I see someone making irrational/OTT attacks against them, you would see similar vigor from my side. Edit: If I know how to be rational in other topics, I sure know a thing or two about rationality elsewhere.
