vvvslaxman Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I can't believe they are comparing Kohli's todays innings with that innings . Kohli was maintaining a strike rate of 100.. He got his 100 even before 30th over. He didn't get in 43rd over. Also Kohli's job was not just to score a 100 and get out.. He had to go all the way. Job was only half done when he got 100. But in sachin's case he batted for 13 overs at a strike rate of 50. Tendulkar made 78 in 98 balls in the first 30 overs.. Virat made 100 in 97 in the first 30 overs. Nobody questioned Sachin's game before 30 overs. Virat initiated the acceleration at the right time and kept India ahead of run rate.

If you say Kohli's innings being compared with Sachin's then you have reading comprehension problem. Just a similar trend is being pointed out which you yourself can see very much if you don't pretend not to understand what is being said here. Kohli was at 90 in 81 balls, but took another 16 balls to reach century. I don't have a problem with Kohli's innings but if you don't go by double standards, you must criticize Kohli's innings as well.

Got it? OTH if you planned your whole innings just to make yourself and your bhakthas happy (read 100x100), you will get the flak. Geez!
The Outsider Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I saw a thread around comparing Dhoni's 183 with Kohli's 183 - perhaps we should have one comparing Tendulkar's 114 with Kohli's 183?

Got it? OTH if you planned your whole innings just to make yourself and your bhakthas happy (read 100x100), you will get the flak. Geez! What does that mean? Y'day both of them were going slow - Sachin and Virat around 75-80 strike rate and Sachin slowed down a bit. Today both were going well over 100 strike rate, much faster than y'day and Virat slowed down to take 10 runs in 16 balls (y'day it was 10 runs in 13 balls). Don't see any difference in terms of slowing down around century. There is no difference if you don't apply double standards. Whether particular player could make up for that slowness in later part of innings should have no bearing on how you treat that slowness around century. And all those who think I am comparing Sachin's innings with Kohli, must go and start with Rapidex English Course (which is endorsed by none other than Kapil Dev) to understand English sentences.

You get to decide that for everyone? :giggle: That's like saying if I took longer to answer a few questions even though I did well in the exams is same as me taking a long time to answer most of the questions and end up failing the exams. :winky:

His innings slowed down well before he got to 90.

Lo aa gaye integrity aur comprehension ke champion. Who is comparing the two innings in the totality? Folks are just discussing the disgraceful acts of selfishness - slowing down near a century. Especially while chasing, with RRR hovering around 7, scoring 10 out of 16 balls just to achieve personal milestone of 11th 100 surely must be criminal and deserves its share of objective criticism and a suitable place in annals of acts of disgrace. Expect jokers to chant - "Bura na maano holi hai", when caught with pants down.

He slowed down the moment he took the crease. And guess why? Kohli and Sachin had a chat in the middle about slowness of the pitch and a good total would be 270ish. Which is why both of them were playing slow.

What is the problem with calling both the acts selfish ? Tendulkar, Kohli and anybody else who slow down before personal milestones are committing selfish acts. How does Kohli's selfishness justify Tendulkar's selfishness ?

Kohli and Sachin had a chat in the middle about slowness of the pitch and a good total would be 270ish. Which is why both of them were playing slow. Huh.. how did pitch suddenly become fast as soon as he got his 100. To move from 78 to 100 he consumed 40 balls against a below par bowling attack on a flat deck. It is as slow as it gets.
akshayxyz Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I am not interested in which one is more selfish ? No player should let his country down. Ranking is immaterial. No problem. I have nothing left to discuss with you [Even though I understand why this happens with almost every batsman - and is same for all of them - except may be likes of Viru.] Let other enlightened folks with 100 100s in matters of integrity shed some light on the topic.

So you are suggesting that Sachin was lying, or Kohli lied/bluffed to him in the middle? Remember explosive openers like Tamim Iqbal, also played slowly to start with against our countryside bowling machines, how did our machines suddenly forgot to bowl towards the end?
akshayxyz Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Not to mention that Kohli's act of selfishness has almost costed us place in the finals (bonus point). Had he played an innings like the one in Hobart, we would have been through to the finals already. Now we have to depend on fair play champions - SL. What was the milestone he was chasing again?

Remember explosive openers like Tamim Iqbal, also played slowly to start with against our countryside bowling machines, how did our machines suddenly forgot to bowl towards the end? He was a nervous wreck out there. Twice would have been run out. Couple more instances he was searching for singles that were non-existent. He took his own time not because pitch was slow or bowling was great. Raina slammed a quick 50 on the very same pitch. With 9 wickets in hand.. your acceleration should have started much early. No matter how slow the pitch is as you say it is unfathomable a guy like Tendulkar plays out a maiden over against 120k bowler like Mortaza. At one stage he had scored 1 run in 10 balls he had faced.
mishra Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I don't think SRT has' date=' he just underestimated our khassi bowlers..:giggle:[/quote'] Actually everyone. Not a single soul thought that Bongs are going to chase 290.But, Shutupp!!!! we are demonizing Tendulkar on icf:hitler:
AAAA Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 This is why Tendulkar is a gun he set the platform and showed his class, he still can play for at least five years or more.
CoverDrive Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Sachin should play the role of someone who provides a quick start and not worry about anchoring the innings. we have enough of steady hands in Gambhir, kohli and Dhoni. Rohit, Sachin and Raina should play the role of pushing up the run rate and take on the bowling.
