Prior to his retirement, he was one of eight senior players dropped for the Sharjah Cup in April 2003, and was then omitted from the Pakistan squad for the subsequent Bank Alfalah Cup triangular series. Due to his omission from the team, he did not participate in a farewell match.

Come out of the delusion of he would have, might have, if.. If Tendulkar does not perform, he will be dropped, period. Retirement is his prerogative. IIRC, SC Ganguly has not announced retirement.. though he will not be in India colors ever again.. For what it is worth, looking at the way Kohli is playing, if he gets a good support cast, tendulkar might not find a place in the team in 2013.

39 is the new 29. Sachin is as fit as he has ever been.. He is striking the ball well, running well between wickets.. scoring runs.. Just because he is the oldest in the team.. doesn't mean he has to retire. When batting becomes too hard for him and when he becomes a liability.. then he will automatically retire without anyone even asking.
