ShebbySB Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Sehwag & Gambhir are India's two regular openers. There is Murli Vijay,Abhinab Mukund apart from them.Ajinkya Rahane is a middle-order batsman so didn't understand his selection as a 3rd opener specially for test matches. Is there anyone who's technically sound, scoring runs & can replace Sehwag in the test team?Sehwag can bat in the middle-order in that case.
mishra Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Sehwag needs to go down the batting order to see how it goes. Not sure about GG.. So we need a first opener
adi B Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 bisla- very correct in technique, very dravideque, great temparament, can score 400 on his day, loves to play on green tops, can dispatch flop bowlers like steyn
maniac Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Abhinav Mukund....There was no reason to drop him after England series..Should be given another go
Ultimate_Game Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Mulund should be the reserve opener. He was selected in WI and ENg, and he looked like he could gut it out. He needs to be given more chances though he does need to improve his game against full pitched stuff. Rahane, Pujara, Rohit and Tiwary should be in the running for middle order positions.
Dravid_TheWall Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Mukund for me, was learning well in england tour despite team situation. For home tests, if we want ultimate FTB
maniac Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Sehwag should be our No6.....He should do or expect to do what Gilchrist used to do for Aus in test matches batting low down the order....Just outplaying the opposition by getting big scores in breath taking time....Don't think Dhoni has that kind of a game with the bat in test matches but still our best Keeper-bat.
Cricket Tragic Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Mulund should be the reserve opener. He was selected in WI and ENg' date=' and he looked like he could gut it out. Ultimate_Game Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Sehwag as opener or at 5? I would have him as an opener as his game is not suited to a middle order batsman. He can't consolidate and doesn't have the patience to grind it out. Let him play as an opener along with Gambhir and Mukund depending on who's in form.
saneindian Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Rahane is a middle order batsman? Has been an opener all his life. Started batting at 3 for Mumbai in the last 2 seasons because the Mumbai (and India A ) coach and Rahane's mentor, Amre was of the view that he would have a better chance of playing for India at one drop with Dravid's impeding retirement. Mukund still needs to tighten his technique against quick bowling and especially with his front foot driving. For now Rahane. By the time Sehwag goes, Mukund would have matured as a batsman and would be ready to build on his test career.
