Chris Gayle has asked the WICB to "state clearly" what it wants him to apologise for, after the board had said the batsman would be considered for West Indies selection only if he retracted his statements about the board and its officials. "They need to come clear and say what Chris Gayle should apologise for, and what should Chris Gayle retract, what are the terms, really and truly," Gayle told the Caribbean Media Corporation. "So they need to make it clear, rather than stating just one particular thing and leaving the public to speculate again, and just make this one big issue which I'm tired of, so they need to just cut it out now." Gayle also said he thought the WICB was "playing mind games" and that he would address their demands at the end of the Regional Super50 in Guyana, where he is leading Jamaica's campaign. "I received a message about the apology at a team meeting the day before we [Jamaica] had to play the Leewards Islands here [last Thursday] in the middle of a regional tournament," Gayle said. "I think they [WICB] are playing mind games with Chris Gayle. I have told them that I want to focus on winning this tournament for Jamaica and I will deal with the apology issue at the end of this competition. "I don't think the board wants to solve this issue. This needs to be closed as soon as possible and they need to be clear on what I should apologise for. State what in the interview I need to retract or apologise for." On October 20, the WICB had issued a statement saying, "Having received reports and reviewed correspondence between Chris Gayle and the West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Team Management and taking into consideration public statements made by Gayle with regard to the board and its officers, the board requires that Gayle withdraws his comments in order to be considered for selection to the West Indies team." Relations between Gayle and the board had broken down after he gave an interview in April to a radio station during which he was scathing about both the board and coach Ottis Gibson. After attempts at reconciliation failed, and Gayle was left out of the squad for the home series against India, he released a public statement, in which he traced the beginning of the dispute back to 2009, when, he said, Hilaire had cast doubts on his ability to captain the team. Gayle has not played for West Indies since the 2011 World Cup. Since then he has been an integral part of Royal Challengers Bangalore's squad in their IPL and Champions League Twenty20 campaigns, finishing as the leading run-getter in the IPL. His impasse with the board had escalated to a level where the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) heads of government had become involved. West Indies are currently touring Bangladesh, after which they will go to India to play three Tests and five ODIs.

Chris Gayle News Chris Gayle to play T20s in Zimbabwe Johannesburg: Former West Indies captain Chris Gayle, involved in a protracted dispute with his national board, will play in Zimbabwe's domestic T20 competition at the end of November, officials said on Monday. Gayle, 31, has not played for West Indies since a World Cup quarter-final in March and the board (WICB) issued a statement last month saying the batsman would be considered for West Indies selection again only if he retracted statements about the board and their officials. Gayle will play for the Matabeleland Tuskers in the T20 tournament from November 25 to December 4. "I am a cricketer and I want to play," Gayle said in a statement. He's saying it playfully. He himself knows, he is no Rahul Dravid to give technical advice.

Maybe if you werent so greedy chris you could give Barath this advice out in the middle.
Thats a bit too harsh and a touch hypocritical, given that you hail from the country the players of which are yearning for an IPL contract and at one point refused to sign National contracts because the tours clashed with the IPL.

Also Gayle lied about nobody getting in touch with him about his injury when infact the WI physio and doctor were advising him about treatment, thats the only thing holding him back from playing for the WI but he is not admitting his lie.

Gayle the Mercenary Chris Gayle is truly spreading his wings it seems. Between playing for RCB in the IPL, and signing a deal to play for the Sunfoil Dolphins in South Africa and an Australian Big Bash team, it appears that he has now agreed to sign up with English County team Somerset. Indeed, it seems as though the only team that he is not playing for is his own. I do not begrudge Gayle's choices, he is a profssional and has the right to ply his trade, but one does wonder if he is becoming the first true dog of war of the cricket world. His skills are in high demand and he seems happy to play as much as he can. It will be interesting to see how this develops and if other players without a home will follow his example.

Interesting points you raise there!!! I wouldn't be harsh on Gayle for not playing for the WI team. IIRC, they have yet to pay him the arrears of his 2009-2010 contract with the WI cricket board. In the circumstances, what Gayle is doing is absolutely valid. He, unlike others, is not willing to short sell his talent. He knows that he has a limited time to make hay, and making hay is what he's doing. I would be very happy if some of our players followed suit. Raina, Kohli, Yuvraj, Sehwag these days are not at all suited to Test games. Why waste an entire month or two on a tour when you can go and play an entire T 20 tournament elsewhere. And probably earn more too. Play to your strengths, guys.
