Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Not sure why people are harping on the spinner selection strategy - please look at the spinners whom you are quoting Raza, Hafeez, Doherty, Narine. They all bowl fast spin which is needed on these slow pitches. Ashwin is quicker through the air as well. Harbhajan does not bowl fast spin. He bowls straight fast darts or slow spin. Not a long time ago, people were questioning Harbhajan's place against South Africa during WC 2011. Now once he does not play he becomes the best player ... waaah! Ganguly, Pietersen, Reeve all have mentioned these points in the Star Cricket studio. Sure, there were other captaincy blunders like bowling Rohit Sharma or Balaji but not playing Harbhajan is not a clear cut mistake from Dhoni.
NareshK Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 ^^ I dont mind pathan at all.. he is been picking up wickets.. and can bat..so he is a good all rounder.. we need two other specialist fast bowler.. zak should retire from 20/20.. In ODIs, I agree he could be effective but still Pathan is good with the ball only when there is swing. He is cannon fodder on flat tracks in T20s. He is especially vulnerable in death overs and can be expensive. If you are a seam bowler in T20s, you cant just bowl a good line and length and get away with it. Without variations and control, you will usually go for runs. Michell Starc, for instance is a very good T20 bowler.
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 war exceeded expectations' date='hes our best T20 player after UV.those r pretty good numbers for T20s wen u consider the situations hes been batting in[/quote'] The problem is Rohit Sharma currently - he is messing up the complete order. You move him out and you have the perfect 3,4,5 in Kohli, Yuvraj and Raina.
rixxuu Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I feel sorry for him, team India has become too dependent on him that he cant afford an off day, whenever kohli misfires India also misfires .this reminds me of that 90s era when India was dependent on tendulkar although tendulkar was not a match winner as kohli is..

jairamesh Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Forget bowling, India forgotten how to hit 6s, finished bottom in Super 8s So after 5 seasons of IPL and we haven't got one decent power hitter in T20. home type conditions, plenty of spinners and yet finish with an embarrassing number of sixes hit compared to others. SIXs hit in Super 8s: CI link Aus 18 Eng 17 WI 17 SL 14 NZ 13 Pak 11 SA 11 India 7 :hehe: When we include group stages, India only hit mores sixes than Afghans, Bangla, Zim, and Ireland!! There is something fundamentally wrong with our approach to T20i, this shame happened last tamasha cup too. Our bowling we can understand, but finishing last in six hitting amongst top 8 is frankly pathetic for what is our strength.

He bowled slow spin and he was quite effective. He was more economical and even picked more wickets than Ashwin.
jairamesh Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 The problem is Rohit Sharma currently - he is messing up the complete order. You move him out and you have the perfect 3' date='4,5 in Kohli, Yuvraj and Raina.[/quote'] Cost us big time today, I think. A Raina like strike rate from Rohit would have given us 15-20 extra runs by the time he got out. I really really really can't see Rohit continue after this last two-three months, failed in India A tour to WI, failed in recent ODIs, and failed in this tournament.
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 agree.I dunno why Dhoni likes him so much.batted ahead of Yuvraj in warmup wen uv needed match practice n in irrelavant game against England' date='but come crucial games, UV was back at 4:giggle:[/quote'] There's no like/dislike there - Rohit if plays has to either open or bat at 5. He can't do anything else and then you have to remove him from the squad. Tiwary is not adept at 6 or 7 either. Currently, the fact is that we lack good T20 players - the earlier we accept it, the better it is. All these moving up/down the order are just hacks and might win a game or two but will never win us a tourney.

Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 What about Yuvraj ? He bowled slow spin and he was quite effective. He was more economical and even picked more wickets than Ashwin. Yuvraj is a different case altogether - he's a part timer and always looked like one. I will just quote Pietersen and Ganguly from the Star Cricket studio. Pietersen - The thing with Yuvraj is that you can not line him up. You can line Raza or Doherty but not Yuvraj because he's a part timer. There are huge variation in line and length. Also, there are certain balls he spins and certain ones he doesn't. That makes up for his slowness. Ganguly - The one which we got Akmal out spun while the previous 3 or 4 balls did not. I will leave you with Reeve's parting shot Reeve - Yuvraj bowled at least 6 balls short in the Pakistan game. A guy like Watson would have got under it and hoicked him over mid wicket. Pakistan just for some reason got bogged down. Harbhajan is very 1D at the moment. You look at his bowling against the English and you will see very few variations - heck he did bowl the doosra but they are the poms FCS! Besides, what form has Harbhajan come into from country cricket? On these days as Akash Chopra puts it, the player who does not play becomes the best player in the side. It was Sehwag against Australia when he did not do jack in the rest two games and now there are hypothetical scenarios about Harbhajan. Not defending MS Dhoni's stupid captaincy like not bringing on Ashwin/Zaheer and going for the kill but harping on a player's exclusion when there is doubt on his recent form is a completely different matter altogether.
Cricketics Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Only one reason. Say whatever you want, our shyt bowling in the game against australia cost us the place at the end. We were always playing catch up with the runrate after giving 140 odd runs in 15 overs.

But then Yuvraj is our GO TO man and he needs more practice than the others probably. Raina, Rohit were already accustomed to SL conditions thanks to the recently concluded tour of SL. Uthappa looks ideal to play in the side for me. I am not convinced on his skills but he looks one most likely to succeed.

Your team and country always crying on Sachin 100 centuries he made 75 resulted in wins and draws and your inzy parthaeater was a minnow basher always failed on bigger stages like world cups.

It was that 1 lost game and in particular our bowling (rain definitely had it's part to play) which led to our ouster. I am quite skeptical of the format of the World T20 anyways.
Sarkar Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 every tom dick harry thinks they are big enough to criticise sachin
Crookbond Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I will tell you what is wrong - IPL. Yes, you may call me the IPL hater I am seriously not. Short boundaries, flatter tracks make you look good in Chennai Sambhar Kings or Mumbai Idiot colors but they will not happen in T20. We are hard wired for the IPL and unless those conditions are not repeated in the World T20, we will fail. See how the IPL teams (Indian players in particular) perform in CLT20 and that should give you enough idea.

Dhoni said the same thing in presentation and I think that is not the right way to see things at the end.. If you take the Australia game out, where the rain intervened, we performed brilliantly and can't have control over how other teams played," an also disappointed MS Dohni says. "Overall I'm quite happy with how the team performed. There were instances where we should have had 10-15 runs more on the board. We lost too many wickets early.".

Bhajji did well against England or SA B on the same pitch.surely he'd done the same with Saffies let me also quote what Ganguly said about Bhajji's exclusion 'fast bowler on these wickets will take wickets like Balaji but will also go for runs.spinner can not only take wickets buy choke runs as well which helps build pressure.' also Ashwin wasnt bowling that fast but still turning it big
