The problem I have is that Aussies never really tried to go for the actual target from the get go. It wasn't as if they gave up the chase mid-way but that they were always going for 112. If Aussies had to win the match to make it to semis I am sure they would have gotten a lot closer to the Paki total but they didn't even want to do that.
well i felt differently ..maybe im wrong but after losing openers they never looked like scoring runs they tried its not like they were playing slowly cos they wanted to .. anyway see todays match it could have ended like this,

yea i think perhaps too much was being made out of their so called 112 target chase because we still had a chance to go thru after the game was over.... Imagine our batting getting 205 like the aussies and trying to win by 30 odd runs and we'd be through... However, our sorry line-up managed 150 so that's that! Now on to this game :giggle: It was being said that aussies were top heavy and today showed the risk of being too top heavy

But even when the openers started off I got the impression they were never interested in chasing 149 but quite content to get to 112, which is what they did. And when they got past the target they didn't even try to score many more. Like I said karma is a bi@tch and this couldn't have happened to a more deserving team

Now I feel that maybe the rain did play a part in India's loss to Aussies. No way could these hacks have played our spinners so easily the way they imploded against Pakis and WI. Tough luck India coz without the rain you would have been around a lot longer.

then we can disagree i always felt after watto was out trying to hit the ball :winky: they never even looked like getting 100 they tried but runs werent coming and they did the smart thing and got qualified nothing wrong with it and i will never blame them for us getting knocked out if we were that good we could have won against aussies no ? i know rain spoiled it.. but thts bad luck

Are you seeing the way Aussies are showing intent even after their top order crumbled today? It's coz they know that 112 is not going to save their @$$. The problem I have is that they could very well have shown some of this intent in super 8s and tried to actually win the game against Pakis which they never showed any intent for.

again .. now its hit or miss.... why the hell would go play like this when u can get to 112 .. i see nothing wrong with it its imppossible for them to get this... bailey can get out on any ball....also dont u see diff in bowling? playing ajmal is harder for these guys.. also pitch was different anyway no need to discuss any further u guys wanna blame our exit on them well carry on but each team plays for themselves..we should have done better against aussies and we would have qualified only we are to blame .. weather is part of this game too we have been saved many times by it anyway enjoy the humiliation :two_thumbs_up:

Personally, I take nothing but a tournament win and that's my idealistic view just like you. At the same time I appreciate the views of people who take a practical assessment of the situation - we won 4 out of 5 games beating Pakistan along the way. If that appeases them, so be it - I do not find any need to make them change their view point.

Ajmal only had 4 overs, just like Narine for WI. Also, no matter what had Aussies tried to go for 149 it's highly unlikely they wouldn't have even managed to get past 112. As I said earlier all power to them for doing what they did but to me that was a disgraceful performance. And i don't see how going for target of 112 instead of winning the game is any different from what Aussies did in 1999 where they dragged their match against WI to 40+ overs while chasing 100 odd just so that WI could beat out NZ with a better NRR. People panned Aussies in 1999 so why not now?

But when you come out with things like "playing hard" you do expect the said team to at least try to go for a win. They never even tried to when the target was a gettable 149, and not in some outlandish 180-200 range. To me if that surrender and only going for 112 instead of the win is not against "spirit of cricket" and "playing hard" don't know what is :dontknow:

Even after they went past 112 hussey asked the striker to calm down when he went for a swish.

Agree. Ian Chappell on the Cricinfo pod was saying the same thing - that the last set of Ind selectors has been very poor, no forward planning, unable to make any hard decisions and picking the same old again and again. Hopefully the new selection panel has more of a vision and is not stuck in the past.
Infact Mohinder Amarnath tried to change that and he was kicked out of the panel, as rumour goes he wanted changes in the team, saw the interview of the bumbling idiot Cheeka and his logic will make u bang your head.

Lets blame this on MS as well! :hysterical:
Absolutely....No urgency shown in the Pak game and Poor desicions in the Aus and SA games....Otherwise things would have been different :icflove:

Pls see the above quoted post. I don't blame Aussies for our exit either. I believe we shouldn't have put our faith in any other team's hand and that's why there are no threads blaming Aussies. At the same time it's hard to believe they ever wanted to get any target beyond 112. When Hussey was set and they were looking good for much more than 112, they still never even tried to get more than 112. They simply shut shop and I did find it a bit odd.

i saw the match and didnt felt the same.. anyway we cant prove anything if people think they are to blame and they are paying for it by losing in semis then its there wish .. i dont think they did anything wrong game was over at over no 18...pitch was hard guys not in form i would have gone for 112 too maybe might have smacked ball after getting to 112 but then again why would they need to favour any team ? :dontknow: they got to 112... real target was impossible to get .. so nothing changes for them anyway maybe im wrong.. but i will never blame them for it.. dont htink they will intentionally do something like this :((
