Ultimate_Game Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 Isn't the test series with NZ before the t20 world cup? Anyway I don't see why he shouldn't be picked for T20 world cup. Can be a big plus. Hope he and rohit get the series against NZ. If we keep him on the bench in Tests and play him in T20s I fear he may go the same way as Murali Vijay :nervous:
Pagalpanti Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Well Murali Vijay was never as talented or technically sound as Rahane but yeah Rahane should get a break in the test series against NZ.
Ultimate_Game Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 Well Murali Vijay was never as talented or technically sound as Rahane but yeah Rahane should get a break in the test series against NZ. Rahane, Rohit, Pujara and Mukund are the future of Indian batting along with Kohli and we need to manage them properly and put them in the best position to succeed. The way I don't want selectors to fast-track Rahane into T20s, the same way I don't want selectors to hold IPL performances against Pujara.
someone Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Comprehesion is not your strong suite is it? I am saying ease Rahane into the Indian team in the Tests first so there's less pressure on him. I saw the same thing pan out with Muraliu Vijay 2-3 IPL's ago. Scored a 100, get into T20 squad and then whooosh. I guess you do not understand cricket comprehensively. If you think pressure is the reason why players should not play while at the same time question if the players are not selected. I really not cannot help you.Actually no one can help you.
ganeshran Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Vijay didnt become the way he is because of being selected in the T20 squad. He always had technical issues which came to the fore playing at the international level
vvvslaxman Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 They have to take IPL performance with a pinch of salt.. That is sure.
RedFever Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 as long as dirty politics goes on in BCCI, rahane and sharma will never be in the playing 11 together (tests), as long as sachin is there. They cant see three mumbai players in the eleven.

What's wrong in what U_G says?
CoverDrive Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 looking at his style he is a perfect one day opener. Someone who can bat long. Drop sehwag and sachin wont play long so he is the perfect replacement. In test he will give competition to rohit or mukund for openers spot.
someone Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showpost.php?p=1924780&postcount=20 What's wrong in what U_G says? Because There is pressure very time you play for India. The adaptability (particular to foreign conditions) is the key. And if you scared of putting a player under pressure, might be better just to never play him.
Old guy Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 he wont end up like murali cos this guy even here is not slogging and with average of 65 at first class level he has played some long innings he is def test material.. and has shown he can adapt :D is pretty good against short stuff too.. batting wise we will do fine in future i guess :nice:
Crookbond Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Because There is pressure very time you play for India. The adaptability (particular to foreign conditions) is the key. And if you scared of putting a player under pressure, might be better just to never play him. Considering there are three formats of the game, a player has to be handled appropriately. Currently, our Test team deserves a lot of attention and we are short of players in the Test arena. U_G suggests that considering the paucity on Indian Test match players we should groom Rahane for Test matches rather than let him drift towards T20. I think that's a fair enough perspective to be considered.

If you think pressure is the reason why players should not play while at the same time question if the players are not selected. I really not cannot help you.Actually no one can help you. Maybe you need to understand what "easing youngsters into intl cricket" means. Rahane came into contention for Indian team due to his FC career where he averages in 60s. Anyone who has seen him bat knows he's more suited to Tests so it's natural to ease a youngster into the team via Tests at home, or if not Tests then odis. We all know what will happen in case Rahane is picked for T20s and fails. The very same folks who are calling for Rahane's selection may term him "Rehne de" just like Rohit is called "nohit" by folks. I don't want him to go the same way as Murali Vijay and Rohit. Rohit is one of the best talents in India and look what has happened when he's been forced into the shorter format when most of the folks can see the guy is ideal for Tests given there's not as much pressure to rotate the strike and score of every ball. It has been 5 years and Rohit is still warming the bench. As for Murali Vijay the guy has all but disappeared after the selectors fast-tracked him into T20s. Scoring runs in IPL is one thing but scoring against the likes of Steyn & Morkel is a different ball-game altogether. In Tests Rahane will have the chance to ease himself in, leave the ball alone and force the bowlers to bowl to his strengths. Not so in T20s. Same should be the case of Pujara about whom we hardly hear anything even though he should be on the short-list of batsmen for the future. Rahane is too valuable for us to go with the philosophy of "sink or swim". We have to ensure he has the best possible chance to succeed at intl level and doesn't lose his way considering most of our youngsters have gone that way.
rajmarie Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I dont think selectors will follow Vijay logic.....Vijay failurs was his own...He failed to get his batting standards higher....& is a joke (even for CSK). Rahane future is his own to make. He looks good & had got a few India appearance under his belt. If he can raise his standard...he can suite us for a long time.
jind Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I agree about batsmen selected for the "right" format.. Though I would like clarify one point. There is a general perception that playing t20 ruins a batsman's technique.. IMO, if a batsman is intelligent enough, he would only enhance or augment the range of shots to his skillset that he already posses in the other formats..rather than 'replace' them. Btw, there's hardly any T20Is played anyway, just one or two in every series except for the T20 WC. It would be whether it is good for him to make the ODI side first before the Test side.

That's one point as the pressure to score off every ball gets to batsmen and over time you see bad habits creep in. However the bigger concern I have is the pressure Rahane will be put under if he doesn't do well in T20s as it will be held against him by our selectors. Rahane should either be eased into Tests or he should be given a long rope and gets at least 2 Test series no matter how he performs in T20s.
1983-2011 Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 just pick the best 15 man squad based on this years IPL and pick the indian IPL captain that does the best even if its dada or rahul :P, so simple
