Hope selectors don't make the same mistake with Rahane which they made with Murali Vijay

After Rahane's good showing in IPL, I fear selectors will select him for T20 Cup just like they did with Murali Vijay and if Rahane fails there he would be sidelined for other formats, especially Tests. I hope selectors remember that Rahane averages 60+ in FC and his preferred format is Tests and he should be eased into the team the Tests route and hopefully against NZ later this year.

Plain Ignorance.Vijay was dropped in tests after his failure in tests. It has nothing to do with his T20 failures. Rahane deserves and has every right to be selected for the T20 world. Why the **** should he be deprived of a chance to win a world cup?

+1 . He should be first preferred for tests
He along with Rohit has to be given a shot in the Tests. If you don't get guys who average 60+ in FC into the team after 0-8 and when they are in form, when will you get them in. I hope Srikkanth can tell the difference in formats and doesn't pick him in T20s only to be dropped from Tests after a poor showing

Coz we all saw what happened to Vijay once he was pushed into the T20 squad. Rahane is one of our most promising prospect and I prefer we are more careful with him and not make the same mistakes we did with Vijay.

He could go Vijay's way failing in both formats. Rahane i am not sure could repeat the same for India . Gauti and Viru are going to open regardless of who is in form. He will come down the order.

WTF. You just seem to have problems any way. Rahane gets selected, problem. Rahane does not get selected, another problem. Bit stupid really.

Dont agree with u U_G Vijay's failures have nothing to do with the selectors.Vijay's main scoring shot in t20's was the hoick over midwicket, once he was found out the bowlers were all over him. He failed to raise his game thats no one's fault but his

What happened with Vijay was he was exposed for what he is.A good player in Indian conditions whatever the format but cant cut away from home regardless of the format. The lat test match he played in India he scored a century against top quality opposition in high pressure situation. So how exactly T20 ruined him? He failed in foreign conditions whether its T20 or test cricket and succeed in India whether its T20 or test cricket. So how exactly T20 ruined his test batting? Frankly the problem is not with T20 its with people who just want bash T20 for everything.

I saw the same thing pan out with Muraliu Vijay 2-3 IPL's ago. Scored a 100, get into T20 squad and then whooosh. You gotta keep things in perspective. Rahane has scored against the likes of Aravind and Vineee koomar. Against Zak he was struggling. In T20s at intl level he will come up against the likes of Steyn & Morkel and he shouldn't be forced into a situation where a failure against them in T20s would put him in the same boat as Murali Vijay.

TBH, Vijay never looked to me like he'll be a good intl. level player. Even his best innings were far too scratchy and lucky. Though I agree Rahane should be managed well.

I can't help but see the parallel between Rahane this IPl and Murali Vijay in the IPL 2 years back. I would rather err on the side of caution coz as the saying goes "those who don't learn the lesson from their mistakes will end up repeating the same". For me Rahane is way too precious to be treated the same way Murali Vijay was.

The way he is going, it will impossible to keep him away from that t20 squad. The good thing is , he's not been playing slogs, but pure cricketing shots unlike Vijay who changed his grip, stance everything to become a successful T20 batsman, which in a way ruined his FC batting technique.

I thought Tests are the tougher format :hmmm:

If that happens so be it. But I hope selectors have a chat with Rahane before selecting him for T20s and tell him that no matter how he performs (even 5 consecutive ducks) will have no bearing on his Test selection, and I hope selectors actually do so. As regards his shot selection, yes he looks much better but bad habits tend to creep in when you are exposed to shorter format for too long. I would rather have him get into the team in Tests and then get into T20 team without any pressure. We already have enough batsmen already for T20s (Sehwag, Gambhir, Raina, Dhoni etc.) and it's not as if we are waiting for a savior. On the other hand Tests is a priority and we can't afford to lose someone like Rahane for Tests just because we didn't manage him well in early part of his career.

It is and that's why I want someone like Rahane to be adversely impacted due to T20s. Rahane is a Test batsman naturally and playing him in T20s may put undue pressure on him. And then we have likes of Srinivasan & Shukla calling the shots in BCCI who can't differentiate between the formats
