Precambrian Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Loving this year's IPL, not that I have watched all games but the ones I've watched or endeavored to have been all tight / entertaining ones. Maybe the cricket lover in me has matured / withered enough to take this one in the lightest fashion as possible - entertainment and that has meant even a Tendulkar failure sits lightly on the heart. I feel IPL has found the right chord in me. I am not going to miss out on anything for this (I called in sick for a test match as recently as November) but I have thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle and not regret a second having spent watching this IPL.

It is purely for entertainment. That is why i hate these tuk tuk masters in this. Viru/Gauti/Fauf have stood out so far.
Naaz-neesh Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 i like ipl, where else can one get to see world's top players play together against each other at full throttle, i would luv it more if pakistani players played too

Marut Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 At this time I am undecided about the overall utility/dangers of IPL. But..... To me what matters will be India's rise to the top and the ability to beat good opponents in their own back yard in all formats. All evidence at this time suggests that IPL has a good role in draining out the ability of Indian players to grind out tough sessions in the longer format. The unprecedented 4-0 white washes are a strong clue that something has gone haywire in the Indian cricket setup, and IPL picks itself automatically as the primarily cause, and this can be reconsidered if India can prove that the recent debacles were just one off "unlucky" incidents. Given the magnitude of defeats, I do not think they were one-off incidents and unless some serious planning is done, we are in for a long time crisis. IPL as a primary cause must certainly be addressed until proved otherwise by India's rise again. "I like IPL. IPL is good money. It is good fun" etc are ok, but if India continues to get thrashed we will become a laughing stock of the world. ( if not one already) IPL's success will ultimatelly depend on India's success as a cricketing nation and if that does not happen, people will not pay to watch mediocre home bullies who flop against international class opposition.

someone Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 and the reason why I for example, hate IPL is because of what it is done to the game of Indian International Cricket as a whole.. .. and thus my posts have explained.. in detail.. why I don't support IPL. :banghead: That's the argument. For you, everything wrong seems to be because of IPL. And everything good, is irrespective of IPL. Double standards and shows your pure hatred for IPL for obvious irrational reasons. I have always said what reasons you mentioned could be applied to every other competitions , but yet it is IPL which is the evil thing for you.
yoda Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 no. it's similar to epl. england footy team sucks but epl is not losing popularity. I agree. People are more interested in how the franchises they support are doing. It is unrelated to what happened to the previous test series or previous WC. One thing that can't be denied however is that the stars of IPL are the by product of international cricket. IPL itself has hardly produced anyone by itself. That reason is because the league is at it's initial years and ofc all the top talent has come from the internationals. Would be interesting to see if that will always be the case or if it will have it's own top dogs who may totally the skip national route.

I have always said what reasons you mentioned could be applied to every other competitions , but yet it is IPL which is the evil thing for you.[/quote'] I never said everything is wrong because of IPL.. I am just saying it a huge distraction of the energies. You shouldn't have started the topic if you are intolerant to differing views. You keep repeating that the same could be said for other competitions.. but please go ahead and name one other competition that is as irrelevant as IPL in our cricketing standing.. that is NOT an ICC competition, that has most of our players from the national team.. and that is drawn out for over a month with several fast paced slogger matches... go on.. name one. ... I will be waiting.. My point of criticism with a domestic entertainment cricket tournament like IPL.... is how it takes the energies of our players away from International tournaments that matter to the over all standing of INdia as a cricketing nation... and you keep repeating you can say about other competitions.. which is a completely dunce thing to say.....It does not make any sense whatsoever.. because there is nothing else like IPL. Even Ranjhi Trophy tournaments have more significance than IPL. Our flat pitch tigers are doing wonderfully in IPL.. Sehwag, Gambhir etc.. but they can't perform to even 20% of what they are able to achieve in IPL when it comes to international tournaments even if their life depended on it!! There is no sense of shame or any lesson learned from the 0-8 whitewash. All of that is still fine.. because after all this is not war.. it is still just a sport... but within the realms of cricket as a sport.. India has a lot of redemption to do when it comes to Test Cricket in the International arena. If you are interested in what we in bombay used to call Jhopadpatti cricket (slum cricket).. where every stroke played by the batsman is an attempted sixer.. then go for it. The Purists of the game will never accept that as real cricket.
Number Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 How can you blame IPL for debacles in test we had. IPL is not responsible for RD, Laxman, Sachin, Sehwag failing. IPL just like any other thing will have both positives and negatives.
Marut Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 no. it's similar to epl. england footy team sucks but epl is not losing popularity. Possible. Only time will tell. EPL has a much richer history than the IPL to sustain itself. If IPL can make it past , say 10 years successfully, it is quite possible that it can sustain itself without regards to the well being of team India.

IPL just like any other thing will have both positives and negatives. Sehwag suffered injury during IPL and continued to play, and then became unfit for international tour. How is IPL not to be blamed for Sehwag's debacle? RD played very well in England ( and even outshone his English peers), who said he failed? He cannot succeed every time. Agree Laxman was going to fade away, IPL or not. Sachin is too talented and experienced to be failing due to IPL, even if its inherently harmful to younger players. Let us examine the effect of IPL on our rising stars, and not on our grandpas. IMO, the real impact of IPL on tests will be known within 2-3 years when the burden shifts to our younger generation. At this time, it is the seniors who are still ruling and their failure cannot be traced to the IPL alone. One danger IPL is posing is that, it makes us and our players forget the thrashing they just received. We should be actively rebuilding a test team after the whippings and we are busy playing tamasha. IPL is a mirage. A whole lot of disasters of the Indian team will be buried every time the IPL season arrives. Selectors will have no accountability too. Every one takes big pay who cares now if India looses or what. IPL will compensate for everything.

Then would have come to play tests in England directly which he did and failed. Then as we saw in Australia, he was fully fit, played against WI just before that at home too. Still failed. I agree that IPL will have it's negatives but so far we can't draw any conclusion that it was IPL because of which we suffered in Tests.
PaceAttack Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 The only +Ve from IPL is the Discovery of new pace bowlers. Other than that there is absolutely no use of this tourney. Absolutely none, oh wait... . . . . . . . Young Indian cricketers are exposed to the models , ****s and they bang them after every match.
saket123 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMLybLDYcAQ]PHYSIO BLAMES IPL FRANCHISES FOR INJURED PLAYERS - YouTube[/ame] The reporter is saying what I said.. with the high $$ amount in the mix.. cricketers are risking burn out and injury by playing too many (insignificant) games.
Marut Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I would not be bothered about the number of games they play, from the point of view of fitness and injuries. If the players can't take the load of 20 over games, they will do worse in ODI and much worse in test matches. The problem is if they hide injuries to play IPL and aggravate their injuries and fail to play for India. @IPLSucks - If its true that IPL discovered new genuine pacers, then this will nearly offset every negativity that comes with IPL, because we will get world beating bowlers instead of trundlers.
sivadarsh2 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Its all about money.I remember Goutam Gambhir played last IPL having a shoulder injury. He revealed the truth about the injury after the season is completed and stayed out from the indian side for a while.. :((
