The same guy is now a congress functionary. how does it matter who broke the alliance? What matters is that BJP was also a part of the Orrissa Govt. which is being criticized by Modi.

By polarising them, he is alienating his own chances.

G_B_ Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 BJD is most certainly not a fence sitter. Modi has done right by attacking the BJD. Its an election rally and quite frankly, the voters in India are general illiterate so they wont realise that BJP was part of Odisha gov. The only way the BJD will support the NDA is if the BJP emerges as a kingmaker in the assembly polls. So more than lok sabha its the state elections which are going to be key for the BJP. However considering that BJD have routed both congress and bjp in the recent past i think its fair to say the losses for both national parties will be steep. BJP in the past made a huge mistake of letting the BJD grow. However its good to see Modi going to rally after rally. Congress have not yet done that. We should see about 20-30 major Modi rallies before the elections. This is a huge advantage of naming your candidate early.
G_B_ Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 and looking at the Odisha assembly elections, I think the BJP will want to increase its tally from 6 to 20 plus. Which may put it in the position to be a king maker. They may not officially form part of the government having learnt the lesson from 2009 and may choose to back the government from the outside giving them the scope to protest against the BJD for their policies at the same time. Similarly BJD wont officially join the NDA but they will provide support from the outside. Allowing them to be critical of national level decisions. Orissa is probably one state in which the BJP probably wants the congress to do much better so that the BJP can emerge as the king marker. If the congress can get a 3-4% swing towards itself and ditto the BJP then IMO BJP will take that overall. I think the BJP though should be able to get 20-25% of the vote up from 17%. The congress on the other hand hmm i dont know if they will increases its vote share. Modi is following the right strategy. Attack the BJD and dont attack the congress in Orissa. Realistically on their own BJP at max will pick up 2-3 seats. they can get BJD with 12-14 seats to support from the outside then nationally thats a much better result for them. It also allows the BJP in Orissa to gain a foothold to emerge on its own without alliances.

BTW you can squirm all you want but there is a greater chance of Advani dying due to old age in 3 months than becoming a PM candidate.

Anything but Modi is continuation of the same old same old. This country needs a strong leader to oversee infrastructure development. Anything but that and we will be seeing "hindu growth rate" (read: commie growth rate) for eternity. (It is a very small window with a young population reaching employment age).

And I do think Modi can in that time further strengthen his hold at national level. Let's see how it goes. Modi look like prime PM candidate at the moment.

G_B_ Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Look, i think Namo will allow Advani to be PM for 3 months He has shown in Gujarat that he can compromise with bringing the likes of Kesubhai Patel back to the BJP fold after the assembly elections. But realistically after Modi its Mr Chauhan of MP who has the next stab. A 3 month Adavni PMship will allow him to win over the Advani faction and cement his position. there is certainly no harm as the likes of Kulkarni in maharashtra for example have been well and truly destroyed by Modi loyalists like gopinath munde. The cadre at one time listened to kulkarni as the grand bjp strategist in the state along with gadkari are firmly in control of munde and modi loyalists like say Kirit Somaiya. The death of pramod mahajan was probably a big blow for Advani. He was somebody who had enough gravitas to stand upto Modi for Advani.
