MM Joshi is the siting MP from Varanasi - he is one of the senior most BJP leaders and one of the founders of the party. He did not wish to give his seat away but he was forced to do so. Also, Modi is called by his bhakts as a "National" leader with presence throughout the country so my question is that why doesn't he have the guts to contest from a tough seat? Why did he choose such a safe seat? Rallies mein baat kartey hain chappan inch ke seeney ki aur election ke liye safe seat choose karte hain - aaj dekh liya kitna "bada" "leader" hai yeh..

What is wrong in taking safer seat? now he dont have to concentrate on this seat,if its not a safer seat he ahs to do extensive campaigning in this constituency. Rajnath singh getting Lucknow is wrong i agree , but atleast he made Modi PM candidate unlike some old guards who never wanted that to happen.

MMJ was the sitting MP and one of the senior most leaders so taking his constituency from him against his wishes is obviously wrong. As for entitlement - he was the sitting MP so yes, it was his seat at the moment.

People are saying if Varanasi is the only seat in whole UP or lets say in eastern UP, if he was keen on contesting from that area He could have picked any other seat. Outright cowardly act by Modi.

If this a safe seat' date= then Modi is good since 1989 this seat has been a stronghold of the BJP and only once (in 2004) has Cong won it in the last 25 years. Also, it was only in the 2009 election that it was a close fight otherwise BJP has always won this seat by a big margin. This is one of the safest seats Modi could have found, especially considering the fact that its a Temple Town and Modi is, well, the poster boy of Hindutva.

This isn't the first time so it certainly isn't a problem that you are trying to believe in. It's very simple politics and a right decision from the strategic or even emotional viewpoint.

He has taken a risk and that must be applauded. BJP has won Varanasi 5 times in the last 6 elections. It is a town famous for its temples. Modi has a strong hardcore Hindutva image. If all this together does not make Varanasi a safe seat for Modi then I don't know what will.

If he did only Gujarat, you would be saying the same. Pointless debating with you then. Nevertheless, the reason is very clear, a strategic decision and if you don't agree with that, not sure what will.
