Hope instead of doing Pita-Putra and Aarti-Puja (melo)drama, he holds some meaningful discussions with some significant country. Elections are over long back, he should stop playing for gallery now.

One extreme to another extreme... Nobody's expecting him to give speech everyday... But at least he can issue policy related issues, just to continue where he left during his election campaign... Not only he's become a super duper MMS, he's even instructed his cabinet to not communicate with media (it seems). Within short span of time he will be brought down to ground reality if he allows opposition to project him worse that MMS in communicating... Remember UPA suffered a lot because of not being able to communicate with public, apart from other reasons.. A large chunk of Modi's voters are young generation and one thing they do hate is another leader who gives competition to MMS... I'm not asking him to speak directly to media... He can, time to time, even release his views from PMO communication... As of now the Modi Silence mode is beating MMS Silence mode in mobile phone, hand down...
well isn't he issuing updates on governance? or u want him to personally come and state every day what policies and actions he did? I suggest u checkout a few social media platforms like PMO twitter handle, PMO facebook handle, govt of india website, ANI, doordarshan, AIR etc. Of course, if you want to participate, there is the citizen driven "mygov.in" initiative. Why don't u go login, check yourself? In other words, stop expecting being spoon fed with what you want to hear. The govt is functioning, but you need to go and look out more. You underestimate the young generation voters. They dont' expect to be spoonfed and a majority of them believe that "absence of bad news" is good news, and definitely some good news is brilliant news. Why I say this? Because this has been exactly Modi's policy in Gujarat over last 15 years or so, talk less, work more, except in the last 5 months before election, when talking needs to be done. Right now, Modi cannot get enough hours to work itself, despite slogging 19 hours a day - he cannot waste time on empty rhetoric really. Just to please a few lazy people.

https://twitter.com/PMOIndia 528 tweets already - updating on key actions of the Prime Minister - its not just about meeting different people, but also about policy pronouncements, his own thoughts about agriculture and other key areas of focus. People should atleast take effort and go through this before harping pointlessly that Narendra Modi is maun-mohan. Ridiculous.

Not talking to main stream media instead communicating to people through social media only is one smart move by Modi.
Yeah, and some armchair guys think this is not enough. They totally grossly understimate the intelligence of today's youth - who knows he has access to multiple sources of information, and doesn't have to rely on mainstream media. The message to mainstream media is clear and precise, they need to get their act in order, purge selfish/bias and be part of nation building process. They need to become the true 4th pillar of democracy and set example for professional ethics by themselves. Unfortunately with instances of Radia tapes where journalists themselves were exposed as brokers of public policy, the trust in mainstream media, especially english one, is gone. The amount of hate campaign that went on in English media against Modi in the run up to his elections was unprecedented in history of earth, - yet he emerged as victor with unbelievably good numbers. Why? Because he knows that so called mainstream media isn't be and end of avenues connecting him with the public.

And it's not Manmohan's "maun" that alienated him from the young voters, no! It was his complicity or tacit silence in extremely grave issues of corruption and utter mismanagement, where he refused to take any action, or reassure the public when some of the biggest scams in history of the world were unravelled. He was the proverbial nero who fiddled when rome was burning. And his eternal bowing down to the gandhi family, effectively rendering him as a mere proxy of the Gandhis, proving himself to be so utterly powerless that a young no-gooder "leader" of his party could just tear up his ordinance in front of the media. People need to get this in their head.

@RoflGandhi_ जब उन्होंने कहा की वो देश के चौकीदार बनना चाहते हैं तो मुझे तभी लगा था की नेपाल भ्रमण तो पक्का हैं

The idea that Modi is not talking to the media is actually Modi not talking to the stars of Indian media. Our media star anchors have this big sense of entitlement and were freely given the government's resources. So, it's very good like now Modi does not take such big media contingent on his overseas tours and waste the government's resources. Instead, he speaks directly to the public through social media, providing daily information.

^ Fine... Which means BJP was very wrong in criticising MMS's silence... Now only BJP understands why MMS was right in being silent....
How? MMS communicated in no forms/medium whereas Modi is communicating daily with the public. Now, if you have any questions for him, you can also use the mygov portal. Currently, we are having the best 2-way communication ever in India. And, I think you are being confused with noises and information. Like, we have Kejriwal who does daily drama, nautanki, and says many illogical statements just to be on primetime TV. That's noise which is highly irritating and should be avoided. Modi doesn't need to make noises but just rightful and informative messages across to the public.

If you want you can count twitter etc also but their numbers are far smaller) and out of them, only a small percentage follow Modi on these sites. Most people watch news channels (especially Hindi channels or regional channels) but, as you said, Modi has pretty much blocked out the major news channels so he's not communicating at all with a very, very large numbers of people. Social media is ONE way to communicate (and I agree that its a really good way) but it shouldn't be the only way.

So basically he's chickening out of any direct questioning... He doesn't have the guts to take any direct questions. He, very reluctantly took direct, stage managed question, during election campaign, because he had to... At least MMS used to take direct questions... Since he can't be bothered now, he's taken a safe option... Let's see how the coming elections goes... :hatsoff: to him if he pulls this off at a national level at a regular basis...

yes people watch tv more than they use fb.. but what exactly do they watch on tv? newschannels? Lol! safely can say the FB penetration is much higher than news-related information dissemination across India.

People are taking to FB and social media like anything, example? My panchayath - we started a group about a couple of months back for our panchayath, and in less than 2 months, I am not exxagerating, we have registered almost 20% or our entire gram panchayath population in that... And no, these aren't fake accounts or dormant ones, because a vast majority of them voluntarily signed upon. The result? a portal where people directly communicate with the village sarpanch, discuss their issues, provide proofs like photographs and remedial actions are taken within hours... TV has always been a one way medium - and vast majority of people in our village prefer the evening soaps instead of news, or sports. That is it. Yes, TV penetration is indeed higher, but that doesn't translate to meaningful participation in governance. The way forward in two way interaction between the govt and people is undoubtedly social media. And initiatives like mygov is just an immense step in that direction.

what is preventing him from taking stage managed questions now? And how many open-forum sessions did Manmohan conduct? How many did Modi do? AFAIK he kicked off his whole election campaigning by conducting a session in Sriram college of commerce (please correct if wrong) - where he took questions from the students. Lol, after 10-12 years of daily "trial and judgement" by the biased English media, you say he's afraid of media. He knows exactly what media is, and how it is to be used. And it is YOU who is lacking in any sorts of specifics, and instead resort to ad hominem, generalized accusations. It will be good in a while to have some specifics.

So if tomorrow, Modi starts coming on TV frequently, then you will start saying Modi is doing no work. Damn if you do, damn if you don't. You will say Modi is doing daily propaganda, dramas, and misusing government resources. If you want your government to such drama queen, you could well support AAP and enjoy Kejriwal nautanki and loud noises. As posted earlier, Modi doesn't need to follow our media stars anchors and he can use his own medium of communication. Our TV media hasn't received much gossip news since NDA government, thus is now making this smooth transition into a sign of silence and problem which aren't a case in reality.

Is it not the job of the media to pass on that message to the masses? They need not be propoganda machines, but they need not be always critical too

For all those complaining about the honorable Prime Minister's lack of communication, have you even tried to see the updates he has posted? Go to the PMO website, you will find multiple updates daily, read whichever ones interest you: http://pmindia.nic.in/official-statements.php Look up his official Twitter account, he has tons of updates. What else do you want him to do? Hold rallies in every nook and corner of the state? Give TV interviews? We are not in election mode, we have a government now. Let them do their work.

Another good piece of article.
Information without spin? So was there no spin of recent propaganda of Modi helping meet a Nepali man, Jeet Bahadur, reunite with his family after so many years? Because it emerges now, according to CNN-IBN, Jeet Bahadur had already met his family in 2012... :giggle: Modi is doing fine... He doesn't needs to do all these... All these dramabaazi gives ammunition to opposition... All these can be avoided or need to do a better home work...
