b555 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Kolkata: Sourav Ganguly believes Gautam Gambhir is ready to take over from MS Dhoni as captain of the Test team after he led Kolkata Knight Riders to their first-ever IPL title on Sunday, beating hosts Chennai Super Kings. Ganguly was part of the commentary panel on India's tours to England and Australia in 2011-12, and felt Dhoni hasn't done much to command a place in the Test side. "As I've always said, there will be a question mark over Dhoni as a Test player. But Gambhir is an obvious choice in the Test format and gives an option to the selectors. It's a 20 percent chance though," Ganguly told a Bengali news channel However, he also said Dhoni was the ideal choice to lead when it came to the shorter formats. "He has led the country to the World Twenty20 title and then the ODI World Cup. With two IPL titles and the Champions League Twenty20 title for Chennai Super Kings, he is the best currently for the shorter versions," he said. Ganguly also called for a serious rethink on how the Indian team would approach Test matches, given the recent reverses suffered by the team. India are scheduled to play 10 Tests at home from August to March against New Zealand, England and Australia. epic shyte! ganguly :finger: you cant resist limelight  http://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/news/item/190873-gambhir-ready-to-take-over-as-test-captain-ganguly
Crookbond Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Gambhir for Test captain based on T20 win. #NajafgarhLogic :headshake:
asterix Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Why that fecker is giving so many interviews, everyday after taking his own team to the bottom of the points table? Attention seeker.. :headshake:
Sachin=GOD Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 While I don't give a damn about how well/badly Gambhir did as a Captain in tamasha kirkut, I do feel that if Dhoni goes as Test captain (which he should after 8-0) then Gambhir should be the new Captain.
mishra Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Gambhir wins the trophy. Dada takes the limelight.... :hatsoff: Dada
vvvslaxman Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 First Harbhajan now Gambhir lol He never stops taking dig at Dhoni.
CSK Fanatic Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I hate to agree with you guys on ICF but you guys are right, Ganguly is pathetic! Dhoni has 5 Major Cups (WC50, WC20, CLT, IPL 2010, IPL 2011). Ganguly = 0 (he brought shame to country)

saneindian Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 The best thing would be for Dhoni to quietly move away and let a new captain take over, whoever he is, most likely Gambhir given his recent success. We play at home for the next 18 months and that is the ideal time for a new captain to take over, have some series wins and get the team ready for the away tours tarting from Dec 2013, SA, NZ, Eng and Australia. MSD has failed to lead the side well during times of crisis, hasn't shown any inclination to change things despite the string of losses. How many of you have the confidence in MSD the leader to turn things around come the away tours 18 months later? I have none. In fact he may even retire from test cricket by then. Best thing for MSD would be to quit captaincy from all forms (including IPL) and start playing as a normal senior player, may bring the best out of him as a batsman.

After Australia series got over Gambhir lost his vice captaincy. What did he do between then and now to become a choice for Indian captaincy?
saneindian Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 After Australia series got over Gambhir lost his vice captaincy. What did he do between then and now to become a choice for Indian captaincy? What did MSD do to retain the captaincy? TINA factor has kept him in the saddle for too long now. Even if GG hasn't done much, I wouldn't mind him being given the captaincy. The national side has stagnated under MSD and I do not see things changing even at home. His team selection, field placements, bowling changes all look quite pedestrian and follow a set pattern, a clear indication of someone who is no longer enjoying the role.We may continue to win at home under him despite those issues but will get whipped when we travel abroad. Would much rather see a change so that the new guy sets new challenges for himself and team and leads the side accordingly.
Pagalpanti Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Wont be surprised if he comes up with "Bisla is ready to replace MSD as wicket-keeper bat" Ganguly is just an attention seeker, we'll have to put up with his punditry now that ESS will cover home series'.
Number Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 You talk about 8-0 answer will be, batsmen failed and bowlers failed, MSD can't do anything. But how can one explain his captaincy in Limited overs game in this period. Our bowlers were giving away 100 runs in last 10 overs in 8/10 games and Captain was clueless, for 8-9 months. There was a pattern during CB series games. Get a few early wickets in first 10 overs, bring Ashwin and Jaddu, batting team scores 150 runs in the next 30 overs for loss of maximum 1-2 wicket and get your bowlers slaughtered in the last 10 overs. I'll never doubt his place in the team. He is the best WK-bat we ever had. Presently one of the most valuable batsmen in LOIs. But he shouldn't be the captain.
vvvslaxman Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 First talk about changing the fatso first. That guy never really had any vision. India had sufficient warning on England tour.
yoda Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 First talk about changing the fatso first. That guy never really had any vision. India had sufficient warning on England tour. Yea, first change has to be Duncan Fletcher.
saneindian Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Yes Fletcher is equally to be blamed for these failures, but does that absolve MSD from how the team has been doing in last 12 months? We are talking of changing the captain and time is now.

We are talking of changing the captain and time is now.[/quote'] Well MSD was the darling before Fletcher arrived. So who is the first logical choice to change?

We are talking of changing the captain and time is now.[/quote'] You can't forget Gambhir himself had 3 ordinary test series as his place as a player itself is a doubt. He has the worst average among our batsmen in the last 3 series. My point is timing of change of captaincy is sending all the wrong signals. Right after winning an IPL? huh.. Also the same guy Gangu suggest Bhajji coming in as a captain. We all know how Gangu was whinging about Dhoni's captaincy in the commentary box .
Number Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 We all know how Gangu was whinging about Dhoni's captaincy in the commentary box . And rightfully so. Ganguly was still okay in his criticism, did you listen to Chappel and Moody during 1st two tests in Australia. One of them said in 3rd innings of MCG test that MSD is providing an absolute blueprint on how to lose a test from winning position. Then in 2nd test Chappel said, MSD rather than helping his bowlers, has hindered them. :haha:
