Atherton's interesting finish to his article.

It's a joke that these pundits for even a second give even the weight of drying paint to online forums and trolls. It probably points to insecurity of Atherton and Vaughan if they have to even bring the issue of internet trolls into their articles for mainstream media. It probably also points to lack of belief in their current national side after some worrying signs in UAE, SL and now vs SA, after making some bashful comments when England white-washed an Indian team full of pensioners. Surely these journalists are above getting suckered into trolling tactics, pretty sad he had to mention them, I pity Atherton. It's victory for internet trolls.

Various quotes from Atherton, subtle digs at Indians: 1. "With the dismissal of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who looks as if the time spent filming numerous television commercials has come at the expense of his batting form, India were wobbling at 5-187, chasing 261." 2. "I don't think I've ever received more abuse than after last week's article on Sri Sreesanth's beamer. Writing about Indian cricket or Indian cricketers ought to come with a health warning, such illogical passion does the topic arouse. But that should never prevent us from tackling the issues that matter, and the beamer, whether bowled accidentally or deliberately, whether bowled by Brett Lee or Sri Sreesanth, or by a wheelchair-bound black lesbian, should be penalised with a ban. The colour or character of the bowler is irrelevant, it is the damage it could inflict which matters." 3. If you watched last night's test match between England v West Indies you will know what I mean. Atherton mentioned IPL in derogatory way many a times prior to the lunch. Picked on Ravi Bopara's technique and mentioned it is possible the initial trigger movement must have creped in during IPL. He called IPL slogathan many a times. Just because during his time people thought back and across or forward movement is the only trigger doesn't mean you have to have the same text book trigger was proved yesterday. So much for Atherton's IPL derailment the two players that stood out yesterday were Bopara and Fiedel Edwards, both successful IPL representatives. Both have been in great form and thanks to some positive batting/bowling by these two, both England and West Indies benefited. 4."To suggest that Tendulkar -- or, indeed, any modern, armoured or, to use (Viv) Richards's phrase, "pampered" player -- is the best ever is demeaning to those former greats who stood at the crease in the knowledge that their next ball could be their last," 5. Tendulkar, now just a comic hero Telegraph article

1. Nothing seems wrong there. Dhoni has looked a pale shadow of himself in both England and Australia. 2. You don't think it is true? You don't think EVERY cricket columnist gets plenty of abuse from Indian supporters for saying anything negative about India? You are here, getting agitated about "subtle digs" at Indian cricketers. 3. He is from that era, when he talks about technique, what else is he going to say? Oh, and the IPL IS a slogathon. Played on the most docile batting tracks, where you only have to be a half-decent batsman to score runs, where a Raina can always get away with a heave to midwicket and score plenty of runs. Where a Rohit Sharma is a star. I don't see much wrong in his opinion. 4. Suggesting Tendulkar is the best ever IS demeaning to the likes of Richards, Lara, Bradman, even Sobers. Everyone has favorites, but it is difficult to choose one over the other. There have been plenty of greats in the game, and there is no way to compare players from different eras.

Definitely not a "pampered" cricketer like he mentions. We don't need to mention his achievements but it was Atherton who was a pampered cricketer who survived in the team in spite of a dubious average of 37. Yeah a few good knocks against Donald, but that's it. I don't know about Bradman and Richards, but Tendulkar is FAR better than Lara and Sobers. I have facts to back it up.

HELLO?????:omg: Then he should STAY OUT of social networking sites, if he can't tackle these. You haven't seen the kind abuses hurled between fans of ManUnited and Chelsea FC during a match. The abuses from Indian fans are NOTHING in front of those. This is how sport is, fans are just too passionate and can go to any extent if someone hurts their team. And it applies to the whole world.

I have no problem with him writing what he wants.. But if he writes some of the above said things, he should be ready to take it back more from some of the passionate fans. One cant have it both ways..

that article just made my day .... someone should tweet that article to him and also send Tendulkars stats since April 2007 ... he has made twice as many ODI runs as Atherton did in his entire career :hysterical: that should get him all wound up nicely.
SRT from Apr 2007 to Jul 2012 - 4802 runs in 53 matches at avg of 57.16 Atherton from Aug 1996 to Nov 2001 - 3187 runs in 55 matches at avg of 32.85 Probably someone can ask him why couldn't he make his own decision
I hope, like Ian Chappell, that he is strong enough, and independent enough, to make up his own mind.
at least in SRT's case some other people were keen to see him in team for business profits, what about Atherton?
The truth is that Tendulkar has been marketed as a brand for some time, advertising many of the biggest commercial names in India. There are many interested parties who are keen to see Tendulkar wearing India's colours for a while yet.
Everyone else is painfully aware that, despite his new super-hero status, his powers are very much on the wane.

Pardon me for questioning the authenticity of the article when it didn't exist openly. I totally believe a poster on the Internet who uses a pseudo to address himself. #KThxBai
