MCcricket Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 KARACHI: Pakistan has hired a psychologist to help in the rehabilitation of paceman Mohammad Aamer who was convicted and banned in a spot-fixing scandal, an official said on Saturday. Aamer, 20, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were sent to prison for their parts in a spot-fixing scandal and banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a minimum of five years. "We have hired Maqsood Babri to counsel Aamer as part of his rehabilitation," Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman Nadeem Sarwar said. "The sessions of counselling will start soon and in this regard we are in touch with the ICC also." While banning the trio, the ICC anti-corruption tribunal led by Michael Beloff had advised the ICC and PCB to rehabilitate the three players. Aamer recently appeared in an ICC anti-corruption educational video warning the future players of the pitfalls of spot-fixing. He was also debriefed twice by the PCB last month. Babri said he will do his best to help Aamer. "It's a challenge for me but I will do my best to counsel Aamer so that he can find his way back to international cricket," he said. "Aamer is an exceptional talent and we must help him regain his place." The trio along with their agent Mazhar Majeed were charged with accepting corrupt payments in return for bowling deliberate no-balls during the Lord's Test against England in August 2010. Aamer was released in February this year after serving half of his six month sentence, while Asif was released two months later. Butt and Majeed were still completing their sentences of 30 and 32 months. Aamer rose to fame in 2009 and was regarded as the hottest property at international level before he was embroiled in the scandal. The ICC had to withdraw his name from the nomination for the year's best young player award because of the scandal. :nervous:

MCcricket Posted June 10, 2012 Author Posted June 10, 2012 For the overall game it will be good to have 10 or more strong cricket/test playing nations, Pakistan, West Indies cricket needs to improve, always had talent these two nations, in this age of technology , spot fixing, Boards along with ICC should also share the responsibility AND PUT INTO PRACTICE MEASURES, GUIDELINES, PLAYER MONITORING TO KEEP THIS GAME FROM BECOMING A JOKE, there is a lot of money involved, there will be players who can be influenced, will legalizing gambling help. All boards have been guilty of letting go corrupt players Australia, England, Pakistan, HOW CAN THE CRICKET FANS EVER TRUST AMIR , how can his team and opponents respect him as a player, there should at least be a 2 year cool of period after the punishment.
Marut Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Assuming Aamer makes his way back to the test side, imagine what will happen if he bowls big no balls or appears to give aways runs too easily, even against his will. He may reform, but there will be a group out there that will try to tarnish him and it will need tremendous mental strength to pull through this.

Newsflash: match fixing goes on all over the cricket world, not just in pakistan.
Needforspeed Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 There is still nearly 4 years of ban still left. He was banned in Feb 2011 for 5 years, whcih means the ban should run till Feb 2016. So is the psychologist going to contine till he comes back to competitive cricket or is this a Pakistani way of trying to shorten his ban by trying to show (thru the psychologist) that he is now a reformed person?

Just because Butt, Asif and Amir went to jail does not make them any worse than Cronje, Azhar etc. Match fixing goes on everywhere, and only an idiot believes otherwise.

Atleast Azhar and Jadeja were banned for life and never played again unlike your PCB believing in conspiracies match fixing goes everywhere but why is that always Pak cricketers get involved more in controversies.
