Ultimate_Game Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Hobbs Gavaskar Bradman Tendulkar Barrington Sobers Gilchrist Imran Marshall McGrath Muralitharan Richards for Barrington and Warne in place of Murali (possibly Akram in place of Imran as well), and that's my team.
rkt.india Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Gary Sobers should be picked regardless of the all-rounder debate. He is well qualified to be picked solely as a batsman. Kallis is not too far behind him. Would have loved to see Keith Miller in there as well. Sobers-Miller-Kapil batting at 6-7-8 boy what a cricketing heaven that would be worth!! Sobers wont be as good a bowler now as he was then. His bowling wasn't anything special. It is better to have specialist bowlers in test rather than bits and pieces.
thongale Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 There are fout world class bowlers there and Sobers will be the fifth. Sobers being a good bowler or a slightly lesser bowler will not make much impact. without bowling eve, he walks in to that #6 spot on his batting alone.

Sobers should be in the team if you have 3 pacers and 1 spinner in the team as a batting all-rounder who can bowl a few overs of spin.

It is better to have specialist bowlers in test rather than bits and pieces. Bits and pieces cricketers are useless in a world xi - but you can pick all rounders who would select themselves on the basis of their batting or bowling alone (eg: Sobers, Kallis, Imran, Miller, Hadlee etc), and that would be a terrific selection. Kapil, Botham etc won't make the eleven for these reasons because they were never too good at batting or bowling.
Cricket Tragic Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I'm waiting to see the thread on the bowlers. The selection of batsmen are pretty predictable given how many threads we have on them.
rkt.india Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Sobers should be in the team if you have 3 pacers and 1 spinner in the team as a batting all-rounder who can bowl a few overs of spin. Yaar neither WI team of 80s nor Aus 2000s had any alrounder to bowl quota of 5th bowler. When you have 4 top class bowlers and 6 top batsmen, you wont need 5th bowler which was the case with WI and Aussie sides.

Marut Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 my bowlers will be Shane Warne' date=' McGrath, Ambrose, and Dale Steyn.[/quote'] Mine will be Imran, Marshall, Lillee and Murali/Bill O'Reilly.
Crookbond Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Whose going to keep? Some will say Tendulkar. Why? Because the "difference between Tendulkar the batsman and keeper is not as much as the difference between Sobers and the keeper".
The Outsider Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 Some will say Tendulkar. Why? Because the "difference between Tendulkar the batsman and keeper is not as much as the difference between Sobers and the keeper". More like "in other words the gap between Tendulkar the keeper and Gilchrist the keeper is not as wide as Tendulkar the Batsman and Gilchrist the Batsman".
pensionplan Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 More like "in other words the gap between Tendulkar the keeper and Gilchrist the keeper is not as wide as Tendulkar the Batsman and Gilchrist the Batsman".Ha..Ha...Poor Bossbhai would like to take that back most certainly given a choice.
Crookbond Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 The last I checked - It no longer exists. The post is edited.
psrb4u Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Kallis is the most consistent of all. I think is the best all-rounder. He can bat, bowl and field very well.
Vilander Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Sobers ahead of kallis by a slight margin, but if you have Waren, Murali in team then You are betteroff with Kallis.
King Tendulkar Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Sobers by a millimete from kallis. Sober gets it just cos he has more style marks then kallis. On productivtey they are same
