:((:((:(( I suppose I was still bummed at England bowing out of Euro 2012 :cantstop:
That was tactics (not testis)..English will be mad to face rampaging Germans in Semis and get their arses handed over to them. So this was the safe option..

You've misunderstood my post. I object to this 'blackest day' nonsense because it implies that the rest of Congress raj was milk and honey. Every living day in post 1947 India has been the proverbial BLACK DAY - half of our population defecates in the open after sleeping on an empty stomach. No food security and no dignity and here we are discussing some imaginary right being taken away. Hope you can see the very absurdity of this so-called discussion.
It's up to you to consider every single day of Free India's existence as the blackest. But if you consider a censored press unable to discuss openly to be a minor inconvenience that doesn't affect 'Real India' then there's not much I can do except tell you that #### ####### ########### # #### ###### # ## ### ########### ## ########## #### ####### ####### ### ### ## ## #### ###### ####### ###### ## # ####### ###### ##### #### #####. And as for 'I object to this 'blackest day' nonsense because it implies that the rest of Congress raj was milk and honey' - how does it ever do that? For the sake of argument however, I would be implying what you said, if I had said for instance, 'A Black day...' in that case, by definition every other day was bright and happy. But I said Blackest, which gives anyone ample room to paint every other day as black or blacker. Or are you raging that OP does not share your congenital hatred of all things Congressian, and that this fine opportunity was lost which could have been used to go medieval on the ruling party!

This is where NDA & BJP fails.. They should've highlighted the day with protests etc. Just to let public know about emegency...
Boss NDA I can understand, but BJP? What is BJP going to highlight? Ghanta ya phir ghadighant? I mean yes RSS contribution to anti-Emergency movement was great but still it was nowhere close to JP Movement, or Raj Narain vs Allahabad court, or other leading luminaries. BJP celebrating anti-Emergency movement is a bit similar to Sunil Valson celebrating 1983 WC win.
Kuch honey janey wala nahin hain in Chaddidhariyon ka.. They are only pretenders, lack any street smartness, and basically are too passive.. They'll again sit in opposition after the next general elections..
This I agree with..Haramkhor hain saale...:yay:

Hmm.... why we recall only negativities? In a newly born country (& wannabe democracy) - with so much of human resource available to rule on..., there was bound to be at least one such incident of trying to gain dictator-type control for good. Positive thing is that public recognized this as not conforming to democracy, and did not elect IG next time. Its unfortunate (but kind of natural) that the other party wasn't too mature either and did not make most of the opportunity. So, good thing is that such thing was short lived, and has not happened again, and most likely wont in future.

Blackest day my feudal Bihari ass. None of the emergency measures affected the 99% of our janata janardhan. The other 1% makes so much noise they actually believe their own hype. I mean freedom of speech is really what worries the rickshaw pullers doing their thing in 48 degrees heat.
What is the source and data for your percentage claims?

Some of my elders remember the emergency time as the most disciplined time in independent India. Trains on time, all government work on proper time schedule and everything was disciplined. They remember it as good times.

A censored press in country where no more than 10 per cent could afford or read a news paper was indeed a minor inconvenience notwithstanding how much you incredulity you fake. I did not mention 'real India' - but I'll agree that the middle class has this persistent delusion to mistake their interests with that that of the nation's. Not a surprise, then, to see this laughable moniker of 'blackest day'. About your second paragraph, I feel it does that because it trivializes the livelihood issues an overwhelming majority of Indians face every waking hour. The semantic gibberish you've posted isn't helpful. If you'd written "A black day", it'd still give you the room to wriggle out. You could still say "A black day doesn't mean the rest of the days were white - there were several days with a dark shade of grey". See, it's just useless forum posturing. On the last bit, if you understood my post, then you'd know that I don't view this as any kind of opportunity. Or I could word it differently and say every living day in the post 1947 India is an opportunity for change. It's a complete non issue to me so I am not sure what opportunity I seem to have missed? Rest assured, I am not the most active of forummer here looking for posts by pravinkataria putting Congress in its place. On my congenital hatred of Congress, you've finally got something right! : )
A free press is not a bourgeois indulgence. I'm not going to start telling you why it's called the fifth estate. A free press helps keeps the state machinery in check, so even though the poor may not read them, the newspapers still serves them. How on earth is this trivializing? Why are you still on a computer when there is a poor child somewhere whose life would be transformed if you gave yours to her? Where is the perspective here? People die, farmers commit suicide, children die overnight of hunger on the streets, but we still have time to discuss if Samsung S3 is better than the rest. If you want to discus the dismal nature of specific areas of our country then feel free to open a discussion, I will be happy to participate. But arguing why the emergency is being called the blackest day on this thread when so much else is happening is actually the very trivialization you mention. Now to the title, if saying 'black days' means there could have been days which were grey, then why does saying "Blackest days" imply that the rest of the days were "milk and honey". This was your earlier point. You've basically had it both ways now. cheers.

From a self-proclaimed feudal Bihari, you have done a 180 and joined the MaLe (Marxist-Leninist). Ye aap nahin, MaLe ka pyaar bol reha hai - every day is a black day? lol..What? Seriously? Hyperbole ki bhi had hoti hai. Itna gussa poore desh pe, aur desh ke itihaas pe. Bandhu itna kya boora hua hai aake saath :((

Somewhat dishonest of you to say that I am obliging or even exhorting everyone to quit their little indulgences and serve the destitute. I do want a little more honesty though. Minor inconveniences labeled "blackest day" tests the limits of incredulity - unless we're all connoisseurs of black humour. And yes' date= please pardon me the 'fifth estate' keeping state machinery in 'check' nonsense.
Ok. I will run all future OPs and titles past you for approval.

Feudal bihari joke tha. Teesre class wale bhi samajh jaate par tumne fir pani ******* banwa li? Aisa kyun yaar? Good to see you type in hindi instead of pidgin english though - more authentic and less comical. Desh pe gussa nahi hai bandhu - angrezi samajh nahi aati toh PM karke explanation poochh lo.
Arre Hindi to hamari matribhaaasa hai, hum to aksar Hindi mein hi likhte hain. Yakeen na aaye to signature dekh lo bhai. Aur rahi baat na-samajhne ki. Haan ho sakta hai hum nahin samajh paaye, magar ek baar par aapne gaur kiya? Aapki baat shayad hi koi samajh paaya lol. Ab yeh hamari kam-samajhi huyi ke aapka bekaar samjhaana? :--D

Nothing against the great JP. But somehow I feel that the level of bandhs and gheraos, strikes and shutdowns, closures of colleges and universities in short the level of indiscipline which we see in people of this country nowadays specially those who were brought up during 70's is way bigger problem then an autocratic ruler ruling this country. What exactly we got from this movement, Paswan, Lalu , Mulayam how was it better than someone like Sanjay Gandhi or Indira Gandhi ruling us. Wasn't it a dream come true every gov office running at time no bribe everybody worked efficiently you know not even a single train got delayed for more than half an hour during this period. Black Day, I wont call it exactly. And we all know Sanjay Gandhi was a baap of even NaMO for his opinions, stuborness and dev agenda. I wish if he would have been our PM after Indira rather than that Bharat Ratna under whom all our problems only grew. The best PM we never had.

Ye baat to sahi hai. Maybe you can make that as signature, or something like - Modi is the beta of Sanjay Gandhi. :giggle: Jokes aside, yes that question is pertinent ke Bhaiyya Emergency se kya mila. Easy answer is Bihar-UP ko ghanta mila. Desh ka kalyaan hua. Specially with regards to the leaders that popped up later. No I am not being cynical and sarcastic, okay maybe a little bit, but yes Emergency is a seminal event in our history. Why? Because India is the only country in the region where every other country has been a dictatorship at some time. Do you think that has happened because we were the chosen ones? No. One of the reasons for this is of course that we have strong roots in democracy and its institutions. And guess when was it at most danger? For all our drawbacks our Juidiciary, media, Stock eschanges, Election Commission have thrived. And thats a good thing. If we had become autocratic you should have kissed them goodbye. By the way this whole notion - Trains running on time etc - how embarassing does that make us look like? That we are so much pushed to the wall, and yet refuse to change things that even taking away our rights doesnt seem to be a bad notion..provided trains run on time :cantstop:

Khalpat Mian, all autocratic rule starts like this. Promising order to people who are tired of disorder. Promising quick development. But wonder why it has never worked anywhere in the world (except nations which have immense oil wealth)? sooner or later the person who is at the center of government will get corrupted by the unchecked power that he has got free of any semblance of accountability. It is inevitable. Just look at the padosi nation. The government which has to go to people for a mandate every 5 years is so corrupt, now imagine a dictator who doesnt need any such mandate, can take sweeping decisions without the fear of criticism, has thousands of crores of the nation's wealth at his disposal. What incentive does he have to stay true to his original cause, even if he did come with an intention to improve the system. Democracy is an inherently imperfect form of governance, with the assumption that the majority are always right, but the most imporant part is that it relies on checks and balances to keep individuals from going too far. On a short term these checks and balances may be subverted, but over time as the system matures, they will fall into place. It just needs time and plenty of patience
