As for the car industry, if he hadnÃÕ saved those companies the unemployment would have grown at even higher rate, in Aus our govt started giving away free money ( thousand bucks to each person who filed tax) and that didnÃÕ work, they saw the house prices drop and declared 40K for first home buyers. These tricks saved the country from going into recession but they are still in a bubble, the house prices never got corrected and median price is still 650k and in 2000 it was less than 250k. I think saving/boosting an industry is a much better idea compared to what other countries have tried. BTW what do people think he should have done ? started public projects ? Let these companies go bankrupt ?

Not the Apple guy but a million+ other livelihoods other than avoiding the wrecking of more than half of the American Auto Industry, which is some chunk of manufacturing left around ?

Good. The execution: Terrible. They spent $85 billion. They bullied the industry into honoring everything that the labor unions threw at them. But creditors were left holding their bags. They bullied the industry into unattainable fuel efficiency mandates raising car prices. Car sales are sluggish. In the short-term, it saved jobs (and that is a good thing). But is it sustainable? Obamandate 2012!! It is ironic that NRIs in the US who escaped red tape and babugiri are in support of increased babugiri and government mandates, regulations and red tape in their adopted country.

AFAIK he tried (maybe not *hard* enough) with the public option, the Wall Street reform & consumer protection act etc. Even with these initiatives it was extremely difficult in the senate since the filibuster was being invoked with unprecedented regularity. Simple as that" The last point is true only because the Feds are subsidizing it by coughing up 20% of the expenditure. Who will subsidize the feds when PPACA costs start to rise? Former State Treasurer (Tim Cahill) has called it a complete disaster. If it is not a runaway train today, it will be one given enough time. So, Factcheck gives the parital truth, but not the complete truth, and then accuses others of not knowing what they're talking about. Has it done anything to curtail healthcare costs? Curtail defensive medicine costs? Note that they are being passed down to consumers. What about curtailing frivolous malpractice suits? Ummm ... I didn't think so. Until a healthcare bill is on the floor that addresses actual COST CUTTING (and not figuring out a way to pay for burgeoning costs), there is no real solution. In all seriousness, you must consider paying the fine and buying a policy when you fall sick. It is either $285 or 1% of income - whichever is higher. The cost of insurance premiums is higher than that (at least for me).

Unions made concessions , that's a fact. Car prices weren't significantly increased until the tsunami hit Japan. Fuel efficiency standards along with increased domestic drilling (prev admin gets good credit) will go a long way in reducing the import bill unlike the unsustainable appetite for gas guzzlers overlooked by the previous administration. The auto industry is back to making profits, sometimes beating expectations. The govt's percentage ownership is lesser as well. How is all this terrible ? Even Romney claims credit for the auto rescue for whatever reason.

After today they are still going to stick to that. Both parties are not going to make major improvements. But i strongly believe Republicans are going to make it far worse if they come to power.
