The bigger problem is that Romney did the same thing in Mass. And it hasn't worked (LINK). But admitting it would be problematic for him. As for alternatives, Paul Ryan has come up with one (LINK). You may not agree with the ideas he presents, but it is ignorant (or deceitful) to say that they have not provided alternatives.
